The Winter Games Overview
My marketing plan is to have three days throughout the school year either
before or after winter break to promote physical activity and promote school spirit.
It will be help in the Pittsburg gymnasium as well as the cafeteria. The name of the
event is called The Winter Games. This event is for grades 9-12, and each class will
be their own separate team. The event is planned for either the three days before
Christmas vacation, or the three days after we return from Christmas vacation. The
event will take up all of the days. You could also think of it as “battle of the classes.”
This event will develop not only school spirit, but also class spirit. There will be a lot
of cheering for your fellow classmates, and will also give students a chance to be
with their teachers outside of the classroom. The ultimate goal of the event is to
bring the school closer together while promoting physical activity.
Throughout the week, there will be different types of individual class
activities as well as school activities. There will also be a theme for the week that is
yet to be decided. The theme is important because each of the classes are required
to create a poster that goes along with the theme, but also represents their class.
Also, the classes will have to present a mock rock, and gymnastics routine that
follows the theme as well. Every day throughout the week there will be a certain
theme for clothes the students can wear. One day might be pajama day, while
another could be school spirit day. Teams will get a certain amount of points with
however many students in their class participate on these days.
The last three days of the week will be full of activities. Each class will
participate, and they will pick the students who they want to participate. Every
student must participate in at least one competition. Whatever place the classes
come in after they compete, points will be given to each class. When the week is
over, the total number of points each class has gained will be added up and the title
of “top class” will be rewarded. Having a little competition is good, because trying to
get the title “top class” will be expected by the seniors and wanted by the freshmen.
The entire event will be about sportsmanship and fun, and anyone who crosses the
lines will have to sit out.
The athletic council and other teachers will help with the event so the
transitions are smooth. The budget will be covered by what the athletic council can
make through fundraisers throughout the year. We will need class advisors to help
with setting up with who is going to be in what event, and will be responsible for
their class while the events are going on. Other teachers can help with refereeing,
scorekeeping, and cheering on the students. With the plan carefully coordinated, it
should be a safe, fun, and exciting week that pulls the whole high school together.
5 day dress up themes
 Monday
o Pajama Day
 Tuesday
o Class Color Day
 Wednesday
o Class chooses theme day
 Thursday
o Event theme day
 Friday
o School spirit day
Mock Rock
 Each class will choose a song which has to be listened to the class
advisor prior to performing in case of swears, or any other
inappropriate meanings. The class will make up a mock rock to the
song without singing. Example: Dressing up, wearing make-up, wigs,
etc. There will be five teacher judges, and after all the mock rocks
have been completed, than the judges will get together and decide the
winner. The mock rock is included because it promotes dancing.
Volleyball 6v6
 Volleyball will be played, and the same rules of regular volleyball are
applied. Games to 15, win by two. Two teachers will be the line judges.
Basketball 5v5

Basketball will be played with the same rules. They will be 10-minute
games, with a three-minute overtime if needed. Two teachers will be
referees.
Flag Football
 Flag football will be the same rules as in PE class. Three downs in
order to get a touchdown. Absolutely no tackling. One running play
per time on offense. Defense has to count five Mississippi out loud
before they can rush the QB and will be penalized if they do not.
Ultimate Frisbee
 Ultimate Frisbee will be played by normal PE rules. They will have to
cross the final line in order for a point. The defense must stay three
feet away from the thrower and count to three Mississippi. If the
defense counts to three Mississippi than it is now the defenses
possession of the Frisbee. If the offense throws the Frisbee and it falls
to the ground than it is now the defenses possession. You can take one
step after catching the Frisbee. This will be a judgment call of the
official. There will be one or two teachers that will be officials.
Grape Toss
 The grape toss will include four students from each class. Each class
will do the grape toss while the others watch. There will be a time
limit of 1 minute for each round. Two chairs will be placed 15ft away
from each other, and two students on the team will sit. One student
will toss the grapes while the other has to catch them in his/her
mouth and them spit them into a bucket they are holding. They will
switch after they are done, and the other two classmates will go. All
classes will participate and the grapes will be added up per class. The
class that caught the most grapes will win.
Soccer 5v5
 Soccer will have the same rules as in PE class. There will be 5 people
on each team, one goalie, two on defense, and two on offense. Regular
soccer rules apply. Absolutely no slide tackling.
Toilet Paper Wrap Up (3 students)
 The toilet paper wrap up consists of one person per team being
wrapped up and two people wrapping. Each wrapper starts with a
role of toilet paper and have the person being wrapped hold on to it.
The wrappers begin wrapping and if they rip the toilet paper, they
have to stop. The fist team to finish first wins. If a team finishes
because they ripped the toilet paper, they lose.
Suitcase Relay
 Students are required to run to then end of the gym backwards to the
suitcase. The suitcase is filled up with old clothes. The student must
put on a shirt, pants, and a hat and run back to their line. They then
must take off the clothes and the next person in line has to put them
on and run backwards down the court and back. Each person on each
team must do this. The first team to finish wins.
Gymnastics Routine
 Each team must make up a gymnastics routine that they will present.
The routine must be at least two minutes long, but no longer that four.
They can use any type of gymnastics movements and props they want.
The music must correspond with the theme.
Tug-of-War
 This game requires to teams to pull a rope over the designated line to
win. Each team will choose eight students (four boys/four girls) to
participate in the event.

Dear Mrs. Smalls:
I am proposing an event that I believe will bring extraordinary school spirit, great
communication, fun, and teamwork that involve our students and staff. The event is called
The Winter Games. I am asking for three days where we can hold events in the gymnasium.
Yes, this will mean that the students do not have three days of classes, but the outcome of
the event should be worth the absence of classes. Helping students understand how
important physical activity is to our world is what I am trying to get across here at
Pittsburg, and I believe this event will help.
The event will represent the school pulling together to do something for the kids,
rather than them doing work for us. This will be a nice lead up to winter vacation, or a fine
way to return from vacation. I will need the help of fellow teachers as well as the Athletic
Council to prepare and run the event. I have the action plan and schedule in an email that I
have sent to you. I hope you consider my proposal and think about the positive potential
outcomes that The Winter Games could have on our students.
Sincerely,
Luke Merrill
