Read, Write, Count: If You Only Do One Thing Primary 3 If You do One Thing – P3 Bag A Beginner’s Guide to Bear Spotting Read the story together and ask your child which items they would carry in their backpack if they were to go for a walk in Bear Country. Above and Below This book has lots of information about animals. Pick a few pages to read together and play ‘Guess the Animal’. Ask your child to give you three clues about one of the animals (for example, about their colour, size or features) – you have to guess which animal your child is describing. Story Cubes Roll one of the story cubes and make up a sentence about the image. Carry on the story by taking it in turns to roll one of the story cubes and make up the next sentence. The sillier the story ends up, the better! Tropical Triumph Cards Play Tropical Triumph together by reading out a category on one of the animal cards (e.g. length). The player with the highest number on their top card wins, and that player collects all the cards in play. It is then their turn again to choose one of the four categories (length, weight, lifespan or special skill) from the next card! Domino Cards Play dominoes by taking it in turns to place a card from your hand onto the table. The next player can add a domino card next to the first one if they have a number which matches either side. For example, if the first card shows a pair of fours, you can only play a domino card that has one end marked with four dots. If you can’t play onto either end of the domino card chain, you must pass your turn and take another card from the pile. Whoever plays all of their domino cards first wins!
