JUNE 2015
A Father's Day Prayer
A Father's Day Prayer
Let us praise those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest
awareness of both joy and sacrifice. Let us praise those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to
become a good father.
Let us praise those fathers who by their own account were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer
those children, now grown, their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by the neglect and
hostility of their children.
Let us praise those fathers who, despite divorce, have remained in their children's lives. Let us praise those fathers
whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing.
Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their step
children's love and respect. Let us praise those fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in
their heart .
Let us praise those men who have no children, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own. Let
us praise those men who have "fathered" us in their role as mentors and guides.
Let us praise those men who are about to become fathers; may they openly delight in their children.
And let us praise those fathers who have died, but live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us.
Creation Humor
An atheist scientist came to God and said, "We've figured out how to make a man without you"
God said, "OK, let me see you do it."
So the atheist bent down to the ground and scooped up a handful. But God stopped him and said, "Oh, no
you don't. Get your own dirt!"

Columbia School Thanks the Veterans
The students at Columbia Elementary and the students in Mrs. Debolt's & Mrs. Beachesteam's classes made cards for the Veterans for
Memorial Day. Tom Wise drove Bob & Sylvia Grissom, Sherry Ware and myself to the Veterans Clinic. We were greeted by the
staff in such a positive way. We told them that the students had made the cards and wanted to thank the veterans for their service.
Receptionists , doctors, nurses, and patients waiting for appointments or treatment took time out tolet us share our cards with them.
It didn't seem to matter if there were misspellings, incomplete cards (due to time issues) or markers that bled through, they simply
appreciated our efforts.
Our visit made a big impact on the Columbia students as we visited their building . Sherry had made each student a red, white &
blue key ring. We handed them out and shared with them how pleased the veterans were with their cards.
I shared about our visit with Mrs. Debolt's class. One student took a picture of the card Kristi Alexander had made for us to have
the veterans sign. their names and branch of service. When asked why he was taking pictures he said he wanted to share the
experience at home. It brought his teacher to tears. The experience is one that impacted my life as well as those who dispersed
the cards. Ifyou are ever available on a day that Tom asks for volunteers to go to the Veterans Clinic in Columbus , please take
advantage of this opportunity .
