PLAYERS WILL RACK THEIR OWN BREAKS. **** RIVER CITY AMUSEMENT STRAIGHT POOL RULES (NON BALL IN HAND) THE BREAK & SHOOTING AFTER THE BREAK Players rack their own break. Pocketing the 8 ball on the break is a win. Pocketing the 8 ball and scratching the cue ball is a loss. On the break, one object ball must be pocketed or at least three balls (not including the cue ball) must be driven to a rail for it to be a legal break. If this doesn’t occur, the opponent will receive the break. After the opening break the table is still considered an open table, regardless of what is made on the break. The first legal ball made after the break will determine the suit of the balls the players are shooting. All balls including the 8 ball are considered neutral and may be used to pocket a ball after the break. Once the suits are determined you must hit your suit first for a legal shot. Call pocket only. Obvious shots do not need to be called. Any non obvious shots should be called but it is always the opponents’ responsibility to ask if they are unsure where the shot is going. Kisses, caroms, and rails touched do not need to be called before a shot. As long as a player makes contact with his suit of balls first and the called ball ends up in the called pocket it is considered a legal shot. Masse shots and jump shots are legal. Jumps are legal as long as the cue ball is hit from above center. It is not legal to jump by “digging under” the cue ball. FOULS Cue ball fouls only. Miscues, scratches, accidental moving of the cue ball, and the cue ball leaving the field of play constitutes a foul and loss of turn. All fouls that do not result in the cue ball leaving the field of play (jumped completely off of the table or scratched) – the opponent will shoot the cue ball as it lies. Object balls accidentally moved by hand or by cue are not fouls. The opposing player shall have the option to leave the balls where they lay or to move back to the original position, or as close as possible. *EXCEPTION* (IF A MOVED OBJECT BALL IS POCKETED IT SHALL REMAIN DOWN AND DOES CONSTITUTE A FOUL AND LOSS OF TURN) **IF THE EIGHT BALL IS ACCIDENTALLY POCKETED IT WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF GAME** Jumping the cue ball completely off of the table and on to the floor is considered a scratch just as the cue ball falling in a pocket. As long as the cue ball comes to rest on the playing surface the shot is considered legal. All scratches result in your opponent receiving ball in hand inside of “The Kitchen” “The Kitchen” is defined as the area from the second diamond across on the breaking end of the pool table. You must shoot at an object ball outside of “The Kitchen”. The ball must be completely outside of “The Kitchen” to be playable. The cue ball must be completely inside “The Kitchen”. It is the opponents’ responsibility to stop a player whom is shooting at a ball that is questionable. If you concede the shot it is considered legal. *EXCEPTION* (IF ALL OF THE PLAYERS BALLS ARE WITHIN THE KITCHEN WHEN RECEIVING A SCRATCH, THE BALL CLOSEST TO THE RACK SPOT SHALL BE PUT ON THE RACK SPOT, OR AS CLOSE TO THE RACK SPOT AS POSSIBLE --- IF THE EIGHT BALL IS THE ONLY BALL REMAINING IT SHALL BE PUT ON THE RACKSPOT) LOSS OF GAME FOULS - Scratching while shooting at the eight ball is a loss of game. Any shot resulting in the eight ball being jumped off the table is a loss of game. - Accidentally moving and pocketing the eight ball is a loss of game. - Making the eight ball on the same stroke as your last object ball is a loss of game. The eight ball must be made alone with the final shot. – Pocketing the 8 ball and scratching the cue ball on the break is a loss of game.
