FIRST ROUND THROWS UP THRILLS APLENTY
With 2016 being the inaugural year of the Greystones Club
Championship the desire to be the first name on the Club
Champions Honour Board is a delightful enticement for all
the excellent players at this club. Moreover, it encourages
fine competition and with that some thrilling matches and
performances. And make no mistake, the first round of the
matchplay did not disappoint. In the top half of the draw, the
most exciting match saw number one seed Alan Condren
pushed all the way by Barry Massey, who in finding himself
two up with six to play finally succumbed at the 17 th. In the
bottom half of the draw, Marcus Looby yet again showed
everyone what a talent he is with a scintillating five under
par performance against Ed Lonergan. Well done to all the
first round winners and the very best of luck in the quarter
finals.
EVERYONE HAVING A BALL
With just this evening and tomorrow to go, the club would
like to offer its sincere thanks to all our members and our
guests for having joined us this week for what has been
(and is) a very successful and fun-filled 2016 Festival of
Golf. Many, many thanks also to our official partners for the
week: Aubrey and Angela Shaw of Provident Insurance,
Karl Holmes, Ann Daly and Supervalu, and Killian O’Dowd
and M3 Medical.

THE GREYSTONES GATHERING
Sun 28th Aug
The Entertainment Committee is delighted to announce that the club will host
the first annual Greystones Gathering
right here at the Burnaby on Sunday
28th August; a day for all our members
to invite family and extended family to
the club (second cousins permitted) to
show off your wonderful golf course,
have great fun, eat fine food and much,
much more. Details of when the timesheet will open will follow soon but as
we hope you will appreciate The Gathering is expected to
be a day out not to be missed. Therefore, for now, it might
be a good idea to send the invites out and pencil this very
special Sunday in your diary.
POWERING UP FOR OLD CONNA
Mon 25th Jul
Following what has so far been a successful run to date,
team managers Robert Clarke and Rod O’Shea will be
hoping the good form continues for their Powerscourt Cup
team in this Monday’s quarter final match-up against Old
Conna. Teeing off at 3.30pm there will three matches at
home and two away, and if all goes well a place in the
semi-final is a distinct possibility. The very best of luck
from all at the club.
CONSIDERATION OF OTHERS REQUIRED
With the course in such fabulous condition and with every single one of our
guests describing the course presentation as amongst the finest in the country, it is a shame that there remains a
tiny number of golfers who are not raking bunkers with the rakes available
and not repairing pitchmarks. Furthermore, deep divots have been found
unreplaced by the side of the eighteenth green. As we are all aware, consideration of other
golfers and the golf course are cornerstones of our game;
let’s try to keep it that way by reminding others to rake
bunkers with rakes instead of clubs, to repair pitchmarks
and to replace divots.
THE LAST PUTT
The way I look at it, there have only been three perfectly pure putts in
the history of golf: Boston's Francis Ouimet's 20-footer at the 71st hole
to lock up the U.S. Open at Brookline in 1913; Nicklaus's 18-footer at the
17th to take the lead in the 1986 Masters; and the brushstroke I put on
my little Titleist late that morning on the 8th green at The Mayflower in
Dorchester, Massachusetts.
-Raymond Lee Hart (better known as Sticks
from Rick Reilly's novel, "Missing Links")
PLEASE BE COURTEOUS TO OTHERS - GET A MOVE ON, REPAIR PITCHMARKS, REPLACE DIVOTS & RAKE BUNKERS!!!!
