JÉRÔME CLEMENTZ WINS MOUNTAIN OF HELL ON NEW SRAM XX1
Imagine winning one of the toughest downhill marathons in the world
without a chain guide. This is exactly what Jérôme Clementz did on
Sunday, July 15th when he won the Mountain of Hell in Les 2 Alpes on his
new SRAM XX1 drivetrain. The first dedicated 1X MTB drivetrain withstood
one of the hardest tests ever: descending the Les 2 Alpes glacier 2,700m
to Venosc; the 20km distance in between has been compared to the
likeliness of hell. During the glacier start racers clock speeds in excess of
100km/h. Jérôme’s choice of a 38T front chainring paired with the 10-42
cassette proved ideal. Coming out of the glacier racers enter a series
of huge boulder fields before a lung-busting climb that leaves only the
fittest still pedaling. Thanks to the 42T cog Jérôme could reserve energy
on this section before dropping into the lower portion of the course that
was used for a downhill race just days before. The last part of the race,
a narrow and aggressive trail open only for the Mountain of Hell, was
no less demanding. Thanks to the X-SYNC chainring technology and
X-HORIZON TYPE 2 rear derailleur, Jérôme’s drivetrain never skipped a
beat, propelling him across the line in first place.
This victory cements Jérôme’s position as one of the leaders of Enduro
racing worldwide and adds a prestigious title to SRAM XX1’s impressive
tally: since having built on his race bike last may, Jerome has never lost
a race. UNSTOPPABLE.
