Compassionate Crawley nursing team scoop award
Woodlands & Clerklands Partnership surgeries nursing team win the Proud to Care Team Award for Compassion at
Sussex-wide health awards.
An NHS nursing team covering the two sister surgeries - Woodlands Surgery in Tilgate, Crawley and Clerklands
Surgery in Horley, Surrey - are celebrating after being named the most compassionate team in Sussex. The group was
recognised for giving outstanding care through relationships based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity and
working cross-boundary to deliver compassionate care.
The team picked up the award at a special event last Thursday evening (25 April) at the American Express
Community Stadium, Brighton, which celebrated the very best patient care that nurses and care givers deliver in
hospitals, the community, primary care and nursing homes across the county.
Donna White, Senior Prescribing Nurse Lead at Woodlands & Clerklands heads up the compassionate Crawley team.
She said: “We were thrilled to be nominated and as for winning the award it was a humbling experience in light of all
the other worthy candidates.”
The nursing team was nominated for the award by three of their reception colleagues. Receptionist Tracey Yeomans
said: “It was amazing to attend the award ceremony with the team, it was a real privilege to be with them on such a
special night. It was lovely to see them collect the award and see their hard work recognized. We are so proud - they
really deserve it.”
The team’s nomination read: “The team is outstanding, they are always going above and beyond what is required.
They put their patients’ care first, treating each patient with that personal touch. The additional duties they take on
are for the care of the patients, from dropping patients home in bad weather, visiting our housebound patients for flu
jabs, or mowing their lawns.
“They all have an excellent sense of humour and make the patient’s visit to the surgery as enjoyable as possible
They are an amazing team and very caring. The whole team of nurses work really well with one another and are
always cheerful and approachable to staff and patients alike.”
During the award evening Professor Juliet Beal, Director of Nursing: Quality Improvement and Care for NHS England,
gave an opening speech to the 200 nurses and their guests. Directors of nursing at Sussex hospitals presented the
individual and team winners of the ‘6C’ awards (Compassion, Communication, Care, Courage, Competence and
Commitment) and the Public’s Choice award.
Dr Amit Bhargava, Chief Clinical Officer for Crawley Clinical Commissioning Group, congratulated the nursing team
on their award. He said: “We are extremely proud of our member practice for winning this award in such an
important aspect of care. Compassion is embraced as a key priority for delivering high quality NHS care in Crawley.”
