For immediate release 29 April 2013 Compassionate Crawley nursing team scoop award Woodlands & Clerklands Partnership surgeries nursing team win the Proud to Care Team Award for Compassion at Sussex-wide health awards. An NHS nursing team covering the two sister surgeries - Woodlands Surgery in Tilgate, Crawley and Clerklands Surgery in Horley, Surrey - are celebrating after being named the most compassionate team in Sussex. The group was recognised for giving outstanding care through relationships based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity and working cross-boundary to deliver compassionate care. The team picked up the award at a special event last Thursday evening (25 April) at the American Express Community Stadium, Brighton, which celebrated the very best patient care that nurses and care givers deliver in hospitals, the community, primary care and nursing homes across the county. Donna White, Senior Prescribing Nurse Lead at Woodlands & Clerklands heads up the compassionate Crawley team. She said: “We were thrilled to be nominated and as for winning the award it was a humbling experience in light of all the other worthy candidates.” The nursing team was nominated for the award by three of their reception colleagues. Receptionist Tracey Yeomans said: “It was amazing to attend the award ceremony with the team, it was a real privilege to be with them on such a special night. It was lovely to see them collect the award and see their hard work recognized. We are so proud - they really deserve it.” The team’s nomination read: “The team is outstanding, they are always going above and beyond what is required. They put their patients’ care first, treating each patient with that personal touch. The additional duties they take on are for the care of the patients, from dropping patients home in bad weather, visiting our housebound patients for flu jabs, or mowing their lawns. “They all have an excellent sense of humour and make the patient’s visit to the surgery as enjoyable as possible They are an amazing team and very caring. The whole team of nurses work really well with one another and are always cheerful and approachable to staff and patients alike.” During the award evening Professor Juliet Beal, Director of Nursing: Quality Improvement and Care for NHS England, gave an opening speech to the 200 nurses and their guests. Directors of nursing at Sussex hospitals presented the individual and team winners of the ‘6C’ awards (Compassion, Communication, Care, Courage, Competence and Commitment) and the Public’s Choice award. Dr Amit Bhargava, Chief Clinical Officer for Crawley Clinical Commissioning Group, congratulated the nursing team on their award. He said: “We are extremely proud of our member practice for winning this award in such an important aspect of care.
