ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW RNAV 5 ATS ROUTES
Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5, Q6 AND Q7
CONNECTING DELHI TO
MUMBAI/AHMEDABAD/UDAIPUR/VADODRA
INTRODUCTION:
Area navigation permits aircraft operations on any desired track within the coverage of
station referenced navigational aids or within the limits of capability of a self contained
system or a combination of both. To improve the efficiency and the capacity in context of
increasing demand and high density of air traffic operating on ATS routes connecting
major airports, RNAV 5 ATS routes are introduced for enroute operations.
RNAV 5 specification does not require alert function of flight performance; however it is
required that equipment on board meets lateral navigation accuracy of +/- 5NM or higher,
95% of the total flight time.
Only aircraft with authorization for RNAV 5 operations may submit flight plans to fly
ATS routes designated for RNAV 5 within the Indian FIR. Operational approval for
RNAV 5 is issued by Director General of Civil Aviation vide Civil Aviation
Requirement, Section 8 - Aircraft Operations, Series ‘O’, Part VI, Issue I - Performance
Based Navigation (PBN).
The flight crew shall notify ATC when RNAV performance ceases to meet the
requirements of RNAV 5.
