Mimi Overbaugh graduated from Penn State with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and served as the Mechanical Engineering Student Marshal for the May 2015 Commencement Ceremony. After participating in the Women in Engineering Program Orientation (WEPO) as an incoming freshman, Mimi supported WEPO by joining the leadership team in roles with increasing responsibility (Rover, Mentor, and Lead). In addition to her involvement in WEPO, Mimi was also a member of Penn State's Undergraduate Teaching and Research Experiences in Engineering (UTREE), led by Michael Alley. As a member of UTREE, Mimi taught presentation and writing skills to Penn State engineering students, helped coordinate the Leonhard Center Speaking Contest, and taught external workshops. These external workshops include a day-long presentation to the University of Pittsburgh's medical community and a four-day workshop to Shanghai Jiao Tong University's engineering students in China. Mimi also completed a semester-long research project in Dr. Karen Thole's Experimental and Computational Convection Laboratory (ExCCL) lab. In addition to engineering extracurricular activities, she was heavily involved in Penn State's Dance Marathon (THON) as one-year committee member (Rules and Regulations Committee) and a three year captain (Merchandise, Family Relations, and Hospitality Committees). In her summers off, Mimi had four internships with three companies (Ritter Technology LLC, Phillips 66, and Williams). In July 2015, Mimi joined Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) in Pittsburgh, PA as an engineer in the Instrumentation and Control Department. BPMI is a project engineering organization responsible for providing design, manufacturing, and procurement management for the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of high-quality nuclear power plant components for installation in submarines and aircraft carriers. As a BPMI employee, Mimi continues to support Penn State by supporting a BPMI sponsored Penn State Senior Design Project and attending recruiting events. In the Fall of 2016, Mimi will be attending the University of Pittsburgh to earn her M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, baking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
