Ball Handling Drills
(EYES UP THE ENTIRE TIME –VISION!)
Two Ball Stationary Drills
Push Pull in Rhythm- Ball on the side, push ball forward and back going as quick as possible. The basketballs
are going back and forth at the same time. You should be in an athletic stance when doing this drill.
Push Pull Alternating- Ball on the side, push ball forward and back going as quick as possible. The basketballs
are going back and forth at different times.
V Dribble - In front of your body cross the balls back and forth the ball does not change hands. You should be in an
athletic stance when doing this drill.
V-Dribble Alternating – In front of your body make the balls bounce in a v going opposite directions.
Come Together and Chase- This combines the two drills above. In one hand the ball is going front to back,
in the other hand the ball is crossing over. You should make the balls come together and then make them chase each
other. Switch hands.
Omar Drill- Ball juggles in a circular motion in front of your body. Drop ball in right hand and switch ball in left hand
to your right hand. Continue this to make the balls go in a circular motion. Go both ways. Then do the drill with your right
foot forward on the right side of your body. Then switch to your left foot forward and dribbling on the left side of your body.
Figure Eight- Dribble the balls in a figure eight with one ball following the other ball through your legs.
One Ball Up Cross Over- Keeping one ball up in the air, you cross the other ball back and forth between you
two hands. You must work on quickness with your hands while also working on hand eye coordination.
Kill One and Start One- While on your knees dribbling
two basketball, kill one and then slap start it while
continuing to dribble the other basketball.
One Ball Up V and Push Pull- 3 V dribbles with right hand, 3 push pulls with right hand then go between
your legs from the back with your right hand to your left hand ( ball you are holding much switch hands on the exchange).
Then do the drill with your left hand and continue..
Two Ball Drills with movement.
Quick Dribble Side to Side – Go side to side as quick as possible with two basketballs. Dribble the
basketballs together in rhythm. Then do the drill dribbling the basketballs alternating. Concentrate on dribbling the
basketballs quick and as powerful.
Cross Over Side to Side - Dribble the basketballs at a 45 degree angle. Change speed and change direction
when you cross over.
Behind the Back Side to Side – Go behind your back at least four times. Change speed and direction
each time you go behind your back. Your hand should hit your butt on each behind the back dribble.
Between the legs Side to Side – Go between your legs at least four times. Change speed and direction
each time you go between your legs
1 on 1 – Try to beat a defender 1 on 1. Defender dribbles one basketball while he plays.
2 Ball Power Dribble – Dribble two balls with a partner pushing you back on your shoulders. You must stay low
and try to explode with each dribble.
2 Ball Toughness – While dribbling
two basketballs have a partner slap and foul you on your arms.
Cone Drills (Cones should be spaced 8 feet apart)
Hesitate -
Hesitate at every cone. Concentrate on stopping and then exploding to the next cone. Push the ball
forward.
Up 2 and back 1- Explode forward past two cones and then back up one cone.
Up 2 and back 1Cross Over- Explode forward past two cones and then back up one cone snap the ball
down on the cross over and push to the other side. Quick and low. Same drill can be done with between the legs and
behind the back.
Cross over and back-
Cross over and back at each cone. Get to the other side of the cone and back quickly.
Then explode forward.
Cross over/back and then behind your back-
Keep the ball low and make the ball move quickly.
Keep your eyes up the entire time.
Slide Dribble then quick-
Slide dribble to the first cone, hesitate and then explode to the next cone. Keep the
ball low and bouncing quickly.
Backtip drill-
The cone is the defender. Go past the cone and then cross over low and quick.
