TDM MAJOR RELEASE 2011
PRESSE
INFORMATION
THE 3-CLICK PHILOSOPHY TO greater
USER-FRIENDLINESS
Tübingen, June 22, 2011 – At this years EMO TDM Systems presents
their yearly major release (TDM V4.5). Eugen Bollinger, Sales Director at
TDM Systems, talks about the focus of development and the highlights
of the new version.
Mr. Bollinger, what are the central topics in the development of V4.5?
Eugen Bollinger: With Version 4.5 we want to set new accents regarding
user-friendliness while supporting our users very concretely in their daily
work with TDM. After all, we know that our software’s acceptance and
success depends especially on its ability to be used as intuitively as
possible. We always have our 3-Click-Philosophy in mind: TDM users
should need only 3 clicks to find tools, carry out functions, etc. This
relates on the new graphic dialogues under the heading of “TDM Intuitive
Working”. Then too, ongoing development of the TDM role concept
contributes to more user-friendliness and an improved Online Help
system. Another central topic is of course our TDM 3D vision.
How much does V 4.5 contribute to the realization of your 3D vision?
Eugen Bollinger: As an innovative company, we always have visions;
how else can we continue to develop and set trends? With TDM V 4.5 we
present the new TDM 3D-Solid Converter. This software tool signifies an
important requirement for the realization of the 3D vision which is the
supply of 3D graphics of assemblies into the planning systems. The goal
is to bring 3D graphics into the corresponding NC systems with a
minimum of technical time and effort. To that end, however, we first had
to overcome a technical obstacle: since every CAM or simulation system
works with different data and graphics formats, we have developed a
converter that checks the 3D solids to the requirements of the
CAM-/simulation system the customer works with, it provides editing
functions to modify the tool solids and it converts the graphics into the
standard format the system needs to have. This is a great tool for our
customers to use 3D assemblies in a very efficient way.
Are there other product innovations?
Eugen Bollinger: Yes! In addition to the new main release we will also
present at the EMO the new TDM Data and Graphics Generator for
grooving tools. It requires only a few clicks to generate 2D and 3D
grooving tools and their data records. It is kind of a logical advancement

of our TDM Data and Graphic Generators according to the tool types
which are on the market.
Are there other technological trends of interest to the users of TDM?
PRESSE
INFORMATION
Eugen Bollinger: Ongoing technological development of communication
media is an important topic for TDM too: with our first tool app for the
iPhone last year we were certainly a step ahead of the market. In the
meantime, smartphones and tablet PCs are becoming more and more
industry-relevant. In collaboration with interested customers we will
therefore develop customized apps which will make it possible to use
mobile devices to integrate tool data into the production process.

Short information about the new TDM 3D-Solid Converter
With the new release there also is a very new software for providing 3D tool solids for CAM- and
simulation systems: the TDM 3D-Solid Converter. It bridges the gap between real tool data and
reliable simulation analysis. So that 3D solids can be integrated and used in the CAM and
simulation processes, they have to meet the systems requirements up to 100 %. And this is
exactly where the new software starts working: the new converter contains essential functions to
check the 3D solids. If they do not fulfill all requirements the CAM-/simulation systems claims, the
user can use the integrated editing functions to modify the solids regarding to the systems needs.
Furtheron, the graphic will be converted automically into the afforded format. The 3D solid of the
assembly is then available for CAM and simulating processes.
At this years EMO TDM Systems presents the new TDM 3D-Solid Converter for TopSolidCAM
software. Soon, it will also be available for other CAM- and simulating software systems.
