CCF 2017 EARTH AWARDS SUBMISSION GUIDE About entering Projects being nominated should be deemed as completed or at practical completion stage (as defined in AS4000 – 1997), as at May 31, 2017. (Projects completed after this date, but prior to judging, may be accepted at CCF WA’s discretion). Projects are split into the following contract value categories: •Category 1 – project value up to $1 million •Category 2 – $1 million to $5 million •Category 3 – $5 million to $10 million •Category 4 – $10 million to $30 million •Category 5 – $30 million to $75 million •Category 6 – more than $75 million Please send your completed entry to CCF WA by June 30, 2017. Contact Andy Graham ([email protected]) The suggested word counts in this guide are maximums, and provide sufficient scope to accurately describe projects. A lower word count for smaller projects is quite acceptable. What is important is that you accurately describe how your project addresses each of the criteria. The dot points under each section in this guide should serve to help entrants address the specific criteria being judged. 2017 1 Category 1 and 2 entrants may provide a dot point summary only, for all sections other than the Project Overview. Project Overview This section should include a concise summary of up to 1,000 words of the project that succinctly describes the project and its most noteworthy features. It should address all of the key aspects covered in the remainder of the submission. It might help if this section was the last to be completed. The overview should include: Project name – as would appear on an Award certificate. Name of Entrant – if this is an alliance, then list the names of the companies that make up the alliance. If joint entrants, then clearly identify the companies involved. Project name Role of company Roles and names of consultants and principal – where an entry is from more than one party, the entry should clearly state the names of all of the partners involved Project description, including type, size, total cost, impact on community and project specific actions relevant to the evaluation criteria Concise and specific details of the project cost and timing schedule (including completion date) Client requirements, which should be limited to major considerations o Where relevant - a statement from the client on how well the project met its needs, time requirements and budget constraints Description of features and solutions that indicate meritorious and/or innovative construction and/or environmental solutions, as distinguished from what would be regarded as standard construction practice and professional competence Photographs / Video Wherever possible / practicable, entrants should support their entry with photos (before, during and after) within the final printed submission which demonstrates the progress of the project. 2017 2 As your submission is provided to us printed, please provide a USB that contains a minimum of 20 high resolution digital photos (2 copies). Digital video material is also accepted and very much appreciated. You are also required to submit a copy of your submission in soft copy. By providing CCF with images the entrant gives permission to CCF to use these images in CCF materials including industry promotion and the Earth Awards. Entrants are requested to identify any images that they wish to withhold permission. 2017 3 Submission Criteria 1.0 Construction Management 1.1 Construction excellence and industry best practice (15 points) – up to 1000 words Addressing key issues such as; Challenges faced and solved in overcoming construction constraints and any latent conditions. Use of any new or improved industry technologies. Risk management initiatives. Project delivery strategy involving any departures from standard delivery methods. Clear management responsibility including designation of roles and responsibilities of site personnel. Measures taken for minimisation of potential inconvenience and damage to adjoining property and the public. o Tidiness of construction site and orderly arrangement of activities. 1.2 Innovation in concept and implementation (9 points) – maximum 500 words Innovation and imaginative thinking in the approach to the project incorporating any beneficial changes to the original design or construction program – particularly if initiated by the Contractor. Introduction of any new, novel or unique construction methods. Application of a process or methodology new to the State, Territory, Australia or worldwide. Any innovative changes made during construction to counter any latent conditions. 1.3 Interface with other project parties (5 points) – maximum 300 words Details of how the project parties worked together. Roles and responsibilities of the parties. Communication techniques to enhance relationship development. 2017 4 1.4 Technical complexity (5 points) – maximum 300 words Identify and describe any technical and complex aspects of the project. Describe how these aspects provided the need for additional construction and management solutions 2.0 Environmental and Social Management 2.1 Management of environmental constraints and enhancement (15 points) – maximum 1000 words Comment on project specific environmental management systems and plans. Minimisation of adverse environmental impact and effects during construction. Successful implementation and completion of project within nominated environmental guidelines. Extent of environmental constraints to be overcome. Use of suitably qualified site personnel to monitor environmental concerns. 2.2 Resource recycling / re-use (7 points) – maximum 300 words Re-use of materials sourced on site. Use of recycled materials brought to site from an external source. Recycling and use of materials removed from site. Separation of site generated waste and subsequent correct disposal. 2.3 Improvement in environmental amenity (5 points) – maximum 500 words Environmental improvements to the site or mitigation of environmental impact. Removal of hazards. 2.4 Community consultation, interface and benefits (6 points) – maximum 500 words A summary of how and why the community were involved in the project. This ranges from project neighbours through to the wider community depending on the size of the project. It will cover individuals through to representative groups, e.g. local government. Potential future use of the site for the community. Contributions to the local community during the life of the project. 2017 5 Heritage and/or cultural issues addressed. 3.0 Project Management 3.1 Project planning and management (15 points) – maximum 1000 words Identify and explain the Contractor involvement in the management of the project. Outline the management structure and responsibility. Explain if management covers the overall project - including disciplines other than the civil component. Indicate any involvement in the pre-construction planning of the project. Explain if and how the planning and management of the project made a significant contribution to the ultimate success of the project? 3.2 Quality control and Work Health and Safety (7 points) – maximum 300 words Comment on quality control plan and procedures as they impacted this project. Comment on Work Health and Safety plan and procedures specific to this project. Describe how quality control and Work Health and Safety management contributed to the outcomes. 3.3 Workplace training (5 points) – maximum 500 words Describe all training that took place as part of the project. This could include project specific training or training and staff development undertaken on the project as part of company processes. Examples include, site induction, trainee/apprentice training, environmental, heritage, plant and animal identification, etc. 3.4 Achieving timing and budget targets (6 points) – maximum 500 words Provide a summary of project timing achievements against plans. Indicate performance against budget for the project. Highlight unforeseen issues which impacted on time and budget and how they were overcome and/or addressed by the project. Consultation with the client on timing and budget issues. 2017 6 Satisfaction levels and support from the client (copy of correspondence from the client may be useful). 2017 7
