PURPOSE OF JOB
1 To assist in the management of a residential children’s home that provides for and
promotes the care of disabled children and which works in partnership with their
families.
2 To maintain care standards and registration of the home by providing operational
management and supervision of first-line managers, contributing to planning and
evaluation, liaising with other agencies, leading projects, managing and developing
staff.
WORKING FOR SHEFFIELD
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To assist in the management of a residential respite service that provides for and
promotes the care of disabled children. To work in partnership with the children and
their families to achieve the best quality care outcomes according to their agreed
care plans
2. To assist in the implementation of relevant legislation, regulation and guidance in
relation to this service.
3. To contribute to the development of service strategy and policy, business planning
and budgetary processes as required.
4. To communicate appropriately and professionally within and outside the local
authority and to represent the service within the Directorate and with other
agencies.
OPERATIONAL PRINCIPLES
1. The service is about providing excellent residential respite care for children and
young people with severe disabilities.
2. All officers will operate within a professional framework based on the Best
Performing Council, Code of Conduct, and the Rights and Responsibility
documents.
3. All officers are accountable for their action, or inaction, within the performance
management and appraisal framework.
4. All managers should be aware of the needs and issues for the different communities
in Sheffield. The impact of race, gender, disability, age and sexuality on the
provision of service and management of workers is at the heart of good practice.
5. Children and Young People’s Directorate is managed within a corporate framework
and managers will contribute, where appropriate, to corporate initiatives.
Council employees are required to work at all times within the policies and procedures
of the Local Authority.
Any other duties and responsibilities as may be determined after negotiation between
management, the post-holder and the appropriate trade unions.
