Minnesota Twins: “Learning Through Baseball On The Road”
Welcome!
The Minnesota Twins are proud to have you and your students be a part of our “Learning Through
Baseball” program. Baseball is part of the fabric of America, and as you will see, it can also be used
as a tool for learning.
In this packet there are seven enrichment activities that you can use in your classroom. These
activities involve the following disciplines:
 Math
 Physical Education
 Social Studies (Geography)
 Language Arts
Each of the seven activities can be used however you see fit. They are geared toward the state
standards and hopefully, will not only enhance your curriculum, but will help to develop some
lifelong Twins fans!
Here are some suggestions for the successful use of the activities:
1. Put the poster on your board and keep it up there all year.
2. For the geography activity, do it once a week, so that the students have time to research
and learn. Try to follow the Twins on their road trips. If it is during the off-season,
select a city and team that you would like.
3. For the math units, you have the option to pick and choose depending on your
curriculum. Do you want to do measurements, or distances, or calculations?
4. For the Language Arts activity you may want to do it when you are concentrating on
writing.
5. You may want to do geography one week, math another week, language arts another
week. Expand as much as you wish. The flexibility is yours!
BRING YOUR STUDENTS TO TARGET FIELD!
We would also like to encourage you to bring your students to Target Field for a “Learning Through
Baseball” field trip, where the students get a tour of Target Field, AND classes in such areas as math,
science, environment, art, language arts and many more! To schedule a field trip, call 612-6593878. Mention that your class participates in the “Learning Through Baseball: On The Road”
program and get a discount.
WIN TICKETS FOR YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS!
The Twins would like to honor those students and teachers who actively participate in the
activities. “Learning Through Baseball: On The Road” participants will have the opportunity to win
tickets to a Twins game by selecting a student whose work on the activities has been exemplary.
Four tickets each will be provided for the teacher and for the student.
