Job Description:
The OVA is hiring 18U Team Ontario Assistant Coaches. The successful candidates will be responsible for
identifying and developing high performance athletes in preparation for Volleyball Canada’s annual National
Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) training camp and Championship event.
PURPOSE:
Provide a high performance training and competition program for Canada’s next generation of National Team
athletes.
Team Ontario Training Program Description:

HPC Open Tryout – Attend the east and west HPC Open Tryouts on May 24-25 to aid in the selection of
athletes for the High Performance Centre.

High Performance Centre (HPC) – Forty-five (45) athletes per gender born in 1996 or later will be
identified through the open tryout and direct invite process. The HPC will be held in North Bay at Nipissing
University from July 2-7 and include training sessions, sport science presentations and end with a two day
tournament.

Team Ontario Training Camp - Two (2) teams per gender of athletes born in 1996 or later will be identified
mainly through the HPC. The teams will train in North Bay at Nipissing University from July 10-15 before
attending the National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) from July 15-20 in Winnipeg, Manitoba (girls) and
Gatineau, Quebec (boys).

National Team Challenge Cup - Athletes from all over Canada will participate in a two (2) day training
camp headlined by National Team coaches starting on July 15. The camp will include position specific
training, team training, sport science presentations. The NTCC tournament will end on July 20 and will
include teams representing other provinces from all over Canada.
Accountability:
Team Ontario Assistant Coaches have a functional reporting line to their team’s Head Coach and a direct
reporting line to the OVA Technical Director.
Team Ontario Assistant Coach Roles and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Team Ontario Assistant Coach will include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
 Assist one (1) team throughout the Team Ontario program
 Identification of athletes for Team Ontario through the High Performance Centre (HPC) Open Tryout and
HPC
 Help develop and implement an effective training program at the HPC, Team Ontario training camp
 Abide by the Team Ontario Selection policy
 Assist in athlete selection at the HPC Open Tryout
 Perform administrative duties as needed
 Complete debriefs with coaches, athletes and OVA following the program
 Submit Athlete, Team and Program Evaluations
 Complete a written athlete evaluation using the OVA grading template
Necessary Requirements:
 Registered member in good standing with the Ontario Volleyball Association
 Familiarity with the Long-term Athlete Development model for Volleyball in Canada.
 Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening & Police Screening Check
Desired Requirements:
 NCCP Level 2 or higher
 Experience developing short and long-term athlete/team training plans (YTP/STP)
 All Coaches must possess a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a willingness to travel within and
out of the province.

 Strategic knowledge of volleyball
 Skill competence
 Personality and ability to work with others
 Ability to follow direction
 Athlete centered
 Experience working in the 18U age category
 NCCP Certification
 Experience in OVA high performance programs
 Gender balance
 Benefit of the program on the coach
 Ability to meet the time requirements
 Experience in mentorship
To ensure that the Team Ontario Program is held to the highest standard and to safeguard against conflicts of
conflicts of interest, Team Ontario Assistant Coaches will not be allowed to coach their child. Coaches with
children in the program may be asked to coach another team or Assistant Coach the team their child competes
on.
Honourarium: $1000
