“Let The Story Times Roll” Using Children’s Literature and Bible Stories to Create Sound Stories Presentation by Teresa Granger M.M.Ed 1. What is a Sound Story? Definition- a story told through sound effects, instruments, and props Sound effects represent words from the story or characters in the story Can be taken from children’s books or literature such as “Jump, Frog, Jump” Can be developed from children’s literature or a story such as a children’s Bible Story 2. What musical concepts can be taught through sound stories? Timbre- the characteristic sound of a voice or instrument Expression- dynamics , emotion, and feeling Form- listening to and responding to same and different Rhythm- the patterns in music responding to long and short sounds Pitch- how high or low a sound is 3. How do I get started in creating a sound story? Let’s do it –Let The Story Times Roll Look at the sample for how you could write the story out with highlighted words Use the Sound Story Template to plan the story As a group demonstrate a sound story such as “Rap A Tap Tap” As a group demonstrate “Jump, Frog, Jump” Discuss musical concepts for each story Then divide into groups and create a sound story from a Bible Story Perform for the group 5.
