HEE’s newsletter for the east of England Let’s Talk “ Welcome to the July edition of Let's Talk, bringing you up to date on the work HEE has been delivering in the east of England. It's been a busy few months, as we work with colleagues across the health economy in the formation of the six Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STP) in this part of the country. As part of plans by NHS England, and outlined in the Five Year Forward View, these STPs will be place-based, multi-year plans built around the needs of local populations, and HEE is establishing Local Workforce Action Boards (LWABs) to lead the workforce strand of this work. The number and footprints for these LWABs is not yet fixed, and I am working with our partners and Workforce Partnerships to work out the detail. Amidst the establishment of the STP areas, we have also set out our Delivery Plan for this financial year. You can find it published on our website. Finally, HEE is reducing the number of LETB committees (governing bodies) from 13 to 4 aligning the organisation with the existing regional footprints of all of the other NHS Arms Length Bodies. The change only relates to the LETB Committees - known as Governing Bodies, not the local offices, which will remain. This change to the number of the LETBs will come into effect from 1 August this year, supported by appropriate handover arrangements. I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to the successes of the East of England LETB over the last few years, and look forward to keeping up the engagement of the local health economy with HEE's activity in the region. I would also like to thank Stuart Bloom, who will be leaving HEE after four years as our Chair in the east. His passion, insight and expertise has been vital in the establishment of HEE and the success we have achieved under his watch. Rob Bowman, Local Director HEE sees three finalists in the HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards Health Education England had three projects shortlisted for the HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards in the Workforce category, including the Cambridge and Peterborough Workforce Partnership's work with their local CCG. The project focused on working together to develop the primary care workforce, and the panel was impressed by the HEE 'Reach Your Potential as a General Practice Nurse in Cambridgeshire' video. Developing the emergency care workforce medicine and increase international medical recruitment. In 2014, HEE established the East of England Emergency Care Steering Group to address national recommendations and meet the challenges faced in recruitment and retention of staff in urgent and care in the NHS. HEE has been pivotal in developing the roles of Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), Physician Assistants (PAs) and other healthcare professionals who may offer extended roles in emergency departments, such as pharmacists and physiotherapists. HEE, EoE has participated in a national pharmacist's pilot study, with extension of the role of pharmacist in emergency care being established in two trusts. Since then, advances have been made through bringing together multidisciplinary networks to try and expand the training routes into emergency The Group has increased support for our trainees in the region, too; teaching days and exam workshops have supported trainees in passing the Let’s Talk July 2016 various elements of their postgraduate examinations. The introduction of the Night Safe intensive training programme has given doctors occupying non-training posts the skills and knowledge for better decision making, especially at night.
