SACRED HEART DRAMA CAMPS SUMMER 2017
Join us this summer for three different kinds of Drama camp!
Contact: John Tourtellotte, Director of Drama Productions – [email protected]
Theatre Adventure & Storytelling Camp (Rising 2nd Graders to Rising 5th Graders)
Dates: Week 1 (June 12, 13, 15, 16) Week 2 (July 17, 18, 20, 21)
Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Hours: 9 AM – 12 PM
Maximum Capacity: 20 students
This is a great camp for elementary students who have always been curious about drama, as well
as those who have been involved in theatre activities in the past. Students will learn and play a wide
variety of theatre games and sports designed to help develop gross motor skills, self-awareness, and
teamwork. We will also be examining poetry for kids, talking about language and how to speak clearly
and confidently enough to fill a room, and capping off the week with a short staging of a fairy tale to put
all the lessons together!
Cost: $100
Taking the Stage Camp (Rising 6th Graders to Rising 8th Graders)
Dates: Week 1 (June 26, 27, 29, 30) Week 2 (July 24, 25, 27, 28)
Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Hours: 9 AM – 12 PM
Maximum Capacity: 20 students
Have you always been curious about drama but never been sure how or where to start? Have you
performed before, but you want to find some more ways to learn and grow before future auditions? Then
this is the camp for you! Fast-paced theatre sports, learning how to examine and quickly understand a
play’s script (and make exciting acting choices), and performing monologues or short scenes from
selected plays written specifically for teenagers and young adults. Join us for a week of fun, learning, and
growing as young performers!
Swords and Slapstick Camp (Rising 5th Graders to Rising 8th Graders)
Dates: Week 1 (June 5, 6, 8, 9)
Week 2 (July 10, 11, 13, 14)
Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Hours: 9 AM – 12 PM
Maximum Capacity: 30 students
Swordplay and Clowning! What could be better? Mr. Tourtellotte is a certified Associate
Instructor with Dueling Arts International, and in this camp, he will teach students to wield extremely
cool (and extremely safe) broadswords, as seen in this spring’s production of The Lion, the Witch, and the
Wardrobe. We will cover the basic techniques of armed stage combat for theatre, and develop partnering
skills to tell a great physical story. But wait, there’s more! Mr. Tourtellotte will also teach students some
broad physical comedy through safe unarmed combat techniques! Stage slaps, falls, rolls, and punches,
all done slowly to teach students the important skills of timing, distance, and physical awareness of
themselves and others. Learn how to fight, and learn how to make ‘em laugh!
Note: Students are welcome to enroll in both weeks of a camp type, and multiple different camps, if they
so choose. Different games and activities, as well as performing materials, will be presented each week
so students will not repeat all materials and activities.
Snacks and water will be provided each day of camp, during a ten minute snack break.
