Pye Green Academy Sporting Tournaments and Competitions 2014/2015 Year 6 Football Tournament On Saturday the 11th of October, a group of year 6 children took part in a football tournament at Longford Primary School. After winning three games and drawing one, they narrowly missed coming top of their group on goal difference. Seven goals were scored (Regan 4, Mitchell 1 and Arron 2) and only one conceded! The children showed great skill, determination and teamwork to play as well as they did. Well done! The team - Regan, Connor O, Joshua R, Joshua C, Mitchell, Ellie-Mae, Arron and Sam. ECMAT tournament On Wednesday 3rd December we took part in our first ECMAT family tournament. A Year 6 team played indoor 5 a side football at Birmingham Futsal Arena against 7 other schools. We came second in our group to get through to the semi finals. We unfortunately lost this in a very tense sudden death penalty shoot out to the overall winners! All of the team played and behaved superbly and we were very proud of them. The team were Ben, Connor, Ellie, Joshua, Mitchell and Regan. Year 5 Football Tournament Our Year 5 squad took part in a tournament at Norton Canes Primary School involving many other schools. The team played exceptionally well and finished second in their group, with only one team going through. We were delighted to pick up five points from our four matches. Our victory came courtesy of a mixture of stellar defending and clinical finishing whilst the draws provided us with a real test of our mettle in order to earn the points. Overall, the team can be extremely proud of their performance as well as giving a phenomenal account of the school. Y5 team: Kyle, Toby, Rafferty, Luke, Archie, Kian, Sam, Deniz. League matches Our Y6 squad took part in two matches here at Pye Green. Our first opponents were St Joseph’s on Tuesday afternoon. Employing an effective 2-3-1 formation, the team attacked and defended superbly to triumph 3-2. It was evident that the players’ ‘never give up’ attitude shone through and was a huge contributing factor to the win. Our second game, against Fiveways, proved less successful although that isn’t to say we didn’t give it everything. The whole squad should be as proud of themselves as we are. Well done to all involved and a huge thank you to all the parents who attended the matches. Y6 team: Elle-Mae, Mitchell, Joshua R, Josh C, Connor, Sam, Harrison Tag Rugby A team of year 6 boys and girls attended Cannock Rugby Club for a tag rugby tournament on Tuesday evening. In the group stages the team played well together and won one of their two matches. Unfortunately things did not go the team’s way and they lost their next two matches, despite trys being scored by Ben and Mitchell. The team finished 8th overall out of 12 schools and all team members thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Girls ECMAT Football Tournament On Thursday 26th March 2015 our Year 6 girls played in a 5-a-side tournament organised by ECMAT at the International Futsal Arena, Birmingham. There was some stunning football on offer from our squad who finished 3rd in their group, with the top three separated by just two points! Immense teamwork was shown to be able to attack and defend efficiently throughout the tournament. The girls’ behaviour was exemplary whilst special thanks must go to Mrs Pike, who kindly drove some of the team to the arena. Squad: Ellie C, Lauren C, Ellie-Mae, Ellie B, Star, Ruby Year 4 Football Tournament On Saturday 28th March 2015, despite the cold, wind and rain, the Year 4 team played excellently to achieve a 3rd place finish in their group (missing out on qualification by a single point!) Brilliant defending and powerful shooting meant that we were able to win twice, draw once and lose once. The team managed to keep three clean sheets from their four games, a great achievement. There was a very healthy turnout from parents, which was greatly appreciated and the team behaved superbly. Squad: Callum D, Jacob, Liam T, Aliah, George, Will, Kieran W, Tyler, Harvey. ECMAT Netball Tournament On Monday, at Wednesfield High School, boys and girls from Y5 and Y6 took part in a netball tournament. There were some excellent skills on show from the whole team as they finished in a more than respectable third place. Accurate shooting, quick passing and tough defending all had a part to play in our success. The team showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament. They were a credit to the school and should be very proud of their achievements. Team: Rochelle, Ruby, Beth, Regan, Rafferty, Matthew, Ellie W. Year 2 Football Tournament On Saturday at St Luke’s Primary School, our Y1 and Y2 football team took part in a tournament. The whole team played excellently throughout. Their discipline and determination helped them to earn four points from their three games. One win, one draw and one loss. They scored some fantastic goals and made lots of brilliant tackles. The team was also supported by an excited crowd of parents, thank you to all who came along. Squad: Josh D, Josh M, Mason, Leo, Ben, Kendall, Charlie and Jack. Kwik Cricket Tournament Pupils from Years 5 and 6 represented the school at a Kwik Cricket tournament. They all played magnificently to win twice and lose twice. The team applied all the skills and techniques they had learned during their time with Progressive Sports in the after school club. Accurate bowling and important catching helped them take many wickets whilst powerful stroke play enabled them to score plenty of runs. The way the children behaved and acted sportingly throughout was a real pleasure to see. They should be proud of their achievements! Thank you to all parents who came to support our team. Team: Rafferty and Luke (Y5). Mitchell, Jack, Liam, Joshua, Rochelle, Leighton (Y6). Tri Golf Tournament On Tuesday 9th June, we took part in a Tri-Golf tournament at Rugeley Leisure Centre. In teams of 10, the children moved around 6 different challenge stations scoring points for our school. The results were very close and we came 5th. The children had great fun and behaved superbly. The team were Kynan, Arron, Mitchell, Jacob, Ashleigh, Libby, Beth, Ellie Mae, Rafferty and Connor. Festival of Sport Twenty-two children from our school took part in a Festival of Sport at Rugeley Leisure Centre. As well as teams taking part in Kwik Cricket and Netball tournaments, the children had the opportunity to enjoy a range of sporting activities including rock climbing, trampolining, golf, aerobics, tennis, martial arts and dodgeball. Kwik Cricket Our team won both of their group games with landslide victories, managing to avoid losing a single wicket and scoring over 140 runs in the process. Unfortunately, we were knocked out in the semi finals by a mere seven runs! Netball Our team played brilliantly to make it through to the semi finals, managing a win, a draw and a loss on the way. Everybody coped with the position rotations and ensured that we remained an organised unit at all times. Just as the cricket team had done earlier in the day, the netball team were also knocked out in the semi finals! Both sports teams, as well as all PGA children involved in the event were excellently behaved and proudly represented their school. Well done to all.
