Shape the Path Program of Research Shape the Path is funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) for a 5‐year team grant (2014‐2019) to develop a new research program focused around novel approaches to understand older men’s experiences of mobility, including its relationship to their health. The Shape the Path program integrates several unique projects and an interdisciplinary team of more than a dozen researchers to investigate how older men negotiate the built environment and participate in physical activity in their home and community settings. The team aims to understand the unique challenges influencing how mobility affects what they do, where they go, and how they feel taking into considerations influences and experiences of masculinities. We will look for novel approached to improve health that comes with mobility for older men living in residential care, at home with receipt of home care and independently in the community at large. Description of Program Choose to Move is a 6 month, choice‐based physical activity program that targets inactive older adults. Activity coaches, will support older adults to create and implement action plans for physical activity, tailored to older adults interests, abilities, income and existing community‐based physical activity resources. The process includes the following interactions between the activity coaches and older adults: one‐one‐one meetings to develop action plans, group meetings and individual telephone calls to provide ongoing support. Interaction between activity coaches and older adults will be more frequent during the first 3 months (active phase) and less frequent during the second 3 months (taper phase). Older adults can choose to be involved with either structured or individual activities. The maximum number or participants per Choose to Move is 24. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Because the successful candidate will be working with older adults in BC, this job requires Currently Registered with BCRPA, in Older Adult o If not, fitness leaders can apply and applications will be fast tracked Current First Aid and CPR Required Skills: ‐ ‐ ‐ ‐ Experience working with older adults, with emphasis on effective oral communication and motivation skills, leadership, ability to establish rapport, ability to access a situation and respond accordingly.
