Dear Parent/Carer,
It has been brought to our attention that there was an incident on the Woodchurch estate last week
where a group of children reported being followed by a man on a bike. There were witnesses and
police are dealing with this.
However, in light of this recent report we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the
importance of making our children aware of Stranger Danger.
We regularly remind our children of how to be safe but it is a message that is very important to repeat
at home as well. The safest course of action is to ensure that children don’t play out without a trusted
adult to supervise, however, here is some advice you can give your child to make them as safe as
possible:

Remember: YELL, RUN, TELL
It's okay to run and scream if you find yourself in danger. Get away from the source of danger
as fast as you can

Never accept gifts or sweets from a stranger. Never accept a lift in a car from a stranger.
Never go anywhere with a stranger

Stay with your group of friends - never wander off or go off on your own without telling a
parent or trusted adult.

Never go up to a car to give directions - keep away so that no one can get hold of you and you
can run away

Always tell a trusted adult if you have been approached by a stranger

If you find yourself in danger or think you are being followed, always run towards shops or
other busy places with lots of people

Never play in dark or lonely places

Never agree to do a job for someone you don't know in return for money or a gift - they may
be trying to trick you
Thank you for your continued co-operation
Yours faithfully
Mr L Comber
