In case you are not familiar with the schools’ football setup in Cardiff and the Vale we have included basic information below. What we do and how it works: 1. Cardiff and the Vale County Schools Football. Players recommended by their schools are chosen, via trials, to join these teams. It is for one of these teams that your son/daughter has been nominated. This means s/he will trial for the opportunity to represent both his school and his county in competitions against other counties in Wales. 2. What we do not do is play in local leagues because we are a school organisation, not a local football club. This does not stop your son/daughter from playing for his local club whenever he is not required for a game at county level. 3. Opportunities arise for boys playing in our teams to be recommended for the South Wales and the National Squads because all games are seen by the national selectors. Additionally, games are always visited by Premier League scouts and several ‘old boys’ have signed for Premier League clubs! What does this mean for your son/daughter? Well, first of all – congratulations on making it to trial. S/he has been recommended by the school as good enough to be considered for a place in the County team and Development Squad not only in terms of skill but also because of the level of commitment and loyalty shown to school – based football. Obviously too, as a potential member of the County team and Development Squad there are certain other things that are important: 1. It is important that your son/daughter attends every practice session 2. It is important that s/he is available for games, approximately 15 midweek County level games during the autumn term with, semis and finals during the Spring Term. 3. S/he must understand that County games and training have priority over any other games, including those for his local club should a rare clash of dates occur. 4. S/he needs to recognise that training sessions and games will emphasise an ethos which encourages discipline as well as enthusiasm in play, and a healthy respect for opponents. 5. That s/he and you understand that Cardiff & Vale Schools’ is working closely with schools so that students can gain a sense of pride and achievement in representing their school and county. We also want them to enjoy playing football, for both their school and their county.
