Knowledge Test for French
REMEMBER: this is not an academic test. Do not use online reference materials, dictionaries or grammars, nor
seek any help in doing this – we want a snapshot of what level you have reached so far, so that we can place you
in the class most appropriate for your ability. Please note that, in order to assist us in placing you at the right
level, you may be contacted by the Co-ordinator to arrange a short conversation in your chosen language in
addition to this test. You should not spend longer than one hour on the test.
There are three sections: each one consists of short exercises and a free-writing topic. You should attempt all the
exercises up to the point where you feel you are just guessing. All students should write something on the first
two topics. Students with GCSE or equivalent as their highest qualification need not complete the third piece of
free writing at the end of section 3.
Please either return your completed PLACEMENT TEST to the ISLI RECEPTION in EDITH MORLEY
