Lafayette College Club Sports Newsletter October 2013 Featured Club of the Month: Crew The current fall season for Lafayette crew has been a very successful one. The club has been very competitive with a strong showing in all three regattas attended thus far, the Occoquan Challenge, the Head of the Charles, and the Head of the Schuylkill. Specifically, in the Occoquan challenge, three boats, the Women’s Club Eight, the Championship Women’s Four, and the Club Men’s Four placed first in their respective events. Additionally, at the Head of the Charles, the largest two-day regatta in the world, The Women’s Collegiate Four, going up against the top Varsity programs in the country, placed 13th out of 33. Lafayette Crew looks forward to many more successes in the future. Best of luck on the rest of the season! Results from this Past Month: Ultimate Frisbee: This past Fall Break, the Lafayette Aflicktion Ultimate Frisbee team went to Dickinson for their annual Jive Fest Tournament. To many, this is one of the most fun tournaments of the year. Aflicktion team took two teams to the tournament, both evenly divided with experienced players and novice players. While both teams played extremely well in their respective brackets, one of the teams advanced to the Finals. Unfortunately, the team lost 9-13, however, the entire team had a great experience at Jive Fest time that they will always remember. Go Lafayette Aflicktion! Women’s Club Volleyball: The Women’s Club Volleyball team recently played in their first league tournament of the year facing some of the strongest teams in their division, such as Fairfield University and Temple University. The team played well, with the highlight of the day being the fierce, victorious match against Montclair State University. The team consists mostly of freshmen, such as Julie Cantor, who led the team in digs, as well as Jackie Jacobson and Rachel Paisner who led in front row attacks. Women’s Club Volelyball will compete again this season on November 16th at University of Delaware. Good luck ladies! Men’s Rugby: Lafayette Men's Rugby beats Desales University 37 to 12 to win a spot in playoffs. The game was played in front of a crowd of around 300, all under the lights in Fisher Stadium. Some of the Lafayette Men's Rugby Alumni were present to support the team. "This year’s team is full of freshmen players and we have the most promising team since I started coaching at Lafayette", "The team is full of outstanding athletes and they are also a great bunch of students to work with", stated men's rugby coach Dan Benedict. The team is in a playoff game scheduled on Sunday November 10th, however are tuning up team rugby skills by traveling to Manassas, VA for a 7's rugby tournament. Guest coach Emil Signes, a former USA 7'S coach, will be attending some practices. Players Brandon Yauch, Chris Nelson, Luke Dilzell, and Kevin Eherts are not only key players but also organize the club by being board members. Good luck Men’s Rugby!
