Please note false completion of this field will lead to disqualification of the project proposal concerned. Project Summary Please convey and summarise the essence of your project to clearly explain: The Innovation Opportunity: o The supply-side discoveries and the demand-side needs. o The targeted outcome of the project (optional). The potential climate impact that this that this innovation brings. How your project relates to Thematic challenges and priorities, how your project intends to address them, and what impact you set out to achieve. A compelling narrative of the project objectives and how they will be achieved. As this summary is used in the project portfolio database and for various communication purposes, 1 the maximum number of words is 200 and therefore additional words will be deleted. Consortium Information Please complete the following table. Partner Number Organisation Name (Full legal Contact person Email Roles and responsibilities name) Climate-KIC Partners Non-Climate-KIC Partners n/a n/a n/a Proposal and Project Implementation Plan [The proposal needs to be described in a concise yet comprehensive way and if possible accompanied by a graphic description of its main components and of their interrelations. Pathfinders can start from either the supply or the demand side, and their role is to connect to the other side, in order to confirm an innovation opportunity. The proposal must convey why the project team believes innovation opportunities exist, and the activities during the project should: Address one or several of the Thematic Priorities listed in the 2016 Pathfinder Grant Application Guidelines. Substantiate both the supply side discoveries – (new knowledge, technology etc.) and demand side needs of the potential innovations (a challenge, barrier, problem etc.). As a result of the above, confirm or not, the potential existence of a clearly defined innovation opportunity. A list of selection criteria is included in the 2016 Pathfinder Grant Application Guidelines is important that all criteria can be assessed from the proposal description (which should however not be structured along these criteria). Anticipated Outputs, deliverables and KPIs should be included. (see2016 Pathfinder Grant Application Guidelines) should be provided.] 2 Project Implementation Plan [Please include a project implementation plan including a Gantt chart, detailing the responsibilities and roles of each Partner. Please include outputs, deliverables and KPIs in the section below. Please refer to guidelines for further Climate-KIC requirements during and after project implementation. Clear and easy to understand proposals and plans assist the reviewers in the decision making process.] Work Package Distribution The following table considers how the “Climate-KIC funded” project costs are distributed across the project work packages. The costs will be reconciled against the work and deliverables in assessing the “value for money” of the project. Each key WP should have a cost associated with it for which the project is looking for Climate-KIC funding. Totals should be made for each of the key stages of the project, as well as the project total cost. Please amend or add Work Packages and Stage Totals as required. Climate-KIC requested funding (k€) 0 Work Package WP1.1: Short Description Lead Partner: partner name WP1.2: Short Description Lead Partner: partner name WP1.X: Short Description Lead Partner: partner name PROJECT TOTAL: 0 0 0 Potential Climate Impact [The proposal must describe a clear and understandable description of the climate impact story related to the innovation opportunity.] For projects that aim to mitigate GHG emissions please complete the following table (delete section if there is no climate mitigation impact and proceed to adaptation): Mitigation Mitigation implies greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions, brought about by either a reduction in GHG emission into the atmosphere or absorption of GHG emission from the atmosphere. GHG emission reductions can include a reduction on emission currently emitted, or a reduction in emissions brought about by the project compared with a credible business-as-usual alternative, or sequestration of emissions currently in the atmosphere. What is the climate change challenge you aim to tackle with your project? 3 [Please provide a description of the specific climate change challenge the project tackles (e.g. global GHG emission hotspot, lack of technologies/solutions to tackle climate change, barriers that hinder reducing the GHG emissions)] What do you consider would happen in the absence of the proposed project? [Please describe the baseline scenario (e.g. what is the business-as-usual solution/situation or common practice) and how would it lead to increased GHG emissions in the specific area the project focus] How does your project aim to reduce GHG emissions and what does it set out to achieve? [Please describe what the project sets out to achieve and how it reduces GHG emissions in the sepcific area] Relevance and evidence [In order to demonstrate relevance and evidence of the climate impact story, please list third party documentation that have been used which may include: Independent reports (e.g. IPCC report, MACs) Market research (e.g. to determine what is business-as-usual solution/situation or common practice in the area which the KIC project targets Peer reviewed literature Government data Others that the project proponents feel help substantiate the choice of the most likely baseline scenario] For projects that aim to create resilience for human or physical systems to the impact of climate change please complete the following table (delete section if there is no climate adaptation impact and only fill out the mitigation section): Adaptation Adaptation implies reduction in the vulnerability of human or natural systems to the impacts of climate change and climate variability related risks by maintaining or increasing adaptive capacity and resilience. What is the climate change challenge you aim to tackle with your project? [Please provide a description of the specific climate change challenge the project tackles (e.g. vulnerability of human or natural systems of the climate change impact)] What do you consider would happen in the absence of the proposed project? 4 [Please describe the baseline scenario (e.g. what is the current situation and how human or natural systems will be affected by e.g. extreme events)] How does your project aim to build resilience in human or phyical systems to the impact of climate change and what does it set out to achieve? [Please describe what the project sets out to achieve and how it is expected to build resilience in human or physical systems to the impact of climate change, by discussing how it contributes to maintaining or increasing the adaptive capacity and reducing vulnerability (e.g. discuss how your project would help meet an EU country (ies) adaptation policy objectives. This demonstrates the proposing is relevant, EU institutions have already established that such is the case)] Relevance and evidence [In order to demonstrate relevance and evidence of the climate impact story, please list third party documentation that have been used which may include: Independent reports (e.g. IPCC report, MACs) Market research (e.g. to determine what is business-as-usual solution/situation or common practice in the area which the KIC project targets Peer reviewed literature Government data Others that the project proponents feel help substantiate the choice of the most likely baseline scenario] Cost Category Distribution [Please complete the following tables. All Pathfinders applying on September 2016 can be fully implemented before the year end. However, if your project will incur costs post December 31 2016, please indicate 2017 relevant costs. All costs in Euros.] Overall Project Costs Project total cost Cost category 2016 2017 Direct Personnel Travel and subsistence Depreciation Subcontracting 5 Explanation of the cost (please refer to chapter 2.7 of the written guidance) Financial Support to 3rd parties Other Goods and services Indirect costs* Total *NB: 25% of total eligible direct costs (excludes Sub Contracting and Financial Support to 3rd parties). List your output in column one and then identify and describe the supporting deliverable(s). For definitions refer to chapter 2.8 of the Pathfinder Grant Application Guidelines. Investment attracted by start-ups supported/have been supported by KICs 7 Confidentiality By submitting your full proposal to Climate-KIC you agree to a number of principles regarding the access to your project documents both at the review and the implementation stage. In general, we would be happy if you agreed to share your project materials as widely as possible within the community, in order to facilitate match-making. However, you may choose to restrict access to the full proposal during implementation, so please amend the option provided in table 2.
