Two Years What is your greatest accomplishment as a professional? I believe my greatest accomplishment still lies ahead of me. I have been able to accomplish some significant goals in large part because Alliance Bank of Arizona has been an active lender even during the most challenging times of the economic downturn. Our ability to fund loans and honor commitments during this time helped me build trust within the commercial real estate community. I work among very talented and accomplished professionals, all of whom I have great respect for, so stepping out in front and gaining market share during a critical time in our industry is an accomplishment I am very proud of. Alliance Bank of Arizona created that opportunity. What do you love the most about being a young female in the commercial real estate industry? Changing the status quo. While more women are entering the commercial real estate industry, the profession remains predominately male. As a commercial real estate lender, I am often on construction sites with developers and general contractors meeting tenants and investment and/or leasing brokers. It is not uncommon that I am the only female present. I am grateful to my predecessors who were “change-agents”, affording me the opportunity to start my career in commercial real estate lending at a very young age without facing significant social challenges. I aim to pay-it-forward with my successors. What is your favorite thing to do “after hours?” Family time! My husband and I have a 15-month old son that is growing every day. We don’t want to miss a minute of it. So if not at work, I am enjoying the outdoors (and now indoors) with my family. “My Message” As the Chair of Programs Committee, I strongly encourage our members to be active participants with AZCREW. Find a committee that complements your interests and skill set, get involved and make an impact. Actively participating rewards you with deal exchanges, knowledge sharing and connectivity in your industry. The Programs Committee is a dynamic group of AZCREW members who “create the agenda” for the coming year. Programs is responsible for organizing the monthly luncheons, including selecting the luncheon topic and securing the luncheon speakers. The Committee collectively brainstorms current and relevant topics to showcase at each scheduled luncheon. If you would like to be involved in creating the program along with interfacing with Arizona’s industry leaders, this is the committee for you. The benefit of AZCREW; the real estate professionals are at our fingertips. NEW Member SPOTLIGHT Erin Szajna Of Counsel, Mack, Watson & Stratman PLC Every day brings something different, but overall, I help companies and people in transactions involving land, developments, condos, financing, landlord/tenant issues and property management. That could be anything from doing due diligence on acquisitions, to drafting purchase and sale agreements, to amending leases, to drafting unique deal-specific agreements for clients (I once drafted a trampoline use agreement!). When I’m not advising clients, I’m researching and keeping current on real estate news, market trends and real estate laws. Overall, my goal is to ensure that my clients get the best deal possible for their needs. Why did you decide to join CREW? »» I wanted to get to know other women in commercial real estate. I’d gone to lots of AZCrew events before I was a member and I was always so impressed by the women I met. Also, they were really fun events! What is your favorite thing to do outside of work? »» In the non-summer months, I’m a runner. When I’m not training for the P.F. Chang’s half marathon in January, I like to run obstacle course races and any kind of 5k where costumes or paint guns are involved. I also like to travel and go to wine tasting events.
