2017 World University Games Selection Criteria Selection Date: April 25, 2017 Tournament Date & Location: Event – August 19 – 30, 2017; Fencing – August 20 – 25, 2017 Intended travel dates: August 16 – 26, 2017 Athletes Selected: Weapon team is composed of a maximum of four athletes, all of which can compete in the individual competition and three of which will compete in the team competition with the fourth as the substitute. Athletes must meeting the following criteria in order to be eligible: United States Citizen and able to obtain a US Passport Born between January 1, 1989 and December 31, 1999 Have taken at least one 3-credit course toward a degree or diploma within the last year before the Games. Incoming freshman and transfers are usually eligible. The standard is that the athlete must be “progressing towards a degree”. Sign the “Team USA Honor Code and Code of Conduct” form. Sign the “Team USA Authorizations, Waiver and Release Form”. Be a member in good standing with USA Fencing Successfully complete all Registration requirements by the stated deadlines. Sign the USA Fencing Code of Conduct Adhere to all anti-doping protocols, policies, and procedures, as applicable. Selection: Athletes (4) will be selected based on point standings in the following order: NOTE: All athletes must meet the stated age and academic criteria to be eligible for selection. Top 24 athletes on the Senior National Team Point Standings Top 12 athletes on the Junior National Rolling Point Standings All remaining athletes on the Senior National Team Point Standings All remaining athletes on the Junior National Rolling Point Standings The top three athletes selected will be named to the team competition, with the fourth athlete selected named as the substitute. Athletes will be responsible for all costs of attendance, which are approximately $2,200 - $2,500, as well as the costs of their airfare to and from the competition.
