Although nutritional needs change in older adulthood, adults still need to consume a variety of
foods from the fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, and protein food groups. Use reliable online or print
resources to create a daily meal plan for a 76-year-old woman with no allergies or health concerns
using the information provided. Then, answer the questions that follow.

Older adults can be great learners, especially if the setting is right. Think of something related to
technology that you could teach an older adult. For example, you could teach an older adult how to
upload a picture, use a smartphone, send a text message, send an e-mail, or use an electronic reader
or other technological device. In the spaces provided, plan your teaching session and record your
teaching methods. When planning the teaching session, be sure to include considerations for the
physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional needs of the older adult. Then, after conducting the teaching
session, evaluate the outcome.

Socialization Opportunities for Older Adults

In accordance with Kohlberg’s postconventional morality stage, older adults have a need to contribute to society. Since many older adults will be transitioning or have already transitioned into retirement, social interaction may decrease. Establishing community relationships helps fulfill societal and
social needs. Research local community social groups, classes, and volunteer opportunities specifically for older adults. Record your findings in the table below.

Create a survey to measure the views of society and culture regarding older adults. Create at least
5 questions and survey 10 people to discover their views on older adulthood. Questions may relate
to myths on aging, social roles during older adulthood, housing options, level of care, or level of
value older adults have in society.
To measure results in a numeric quantity, use a rating scale of 1 to 5, where 1 indicates a low-level
response and 5 indicates a high-level response. Record each response and tally the results. For each
question, add the responses together and then divide this number by the total number of participants
to find the average response. Record your results in a graph on a separate sheet of paper. Then,
answer the questions on the next page.
