Game duration: 10 minutes playing time with no half-time break. It is imperative that games BEGIN ON TIME to enable the fixture to run to schedule, thus ensuring the day runs smoothly. The clock will be started at the scheduled time, with the late team receiving a ONE POINT PENALTY for each minute they are late. The Coordinator reserves the right to not penalise a team who may be running late due to circumstances outside their own control (e.g. accident). Teams are to call ahead if they believe they will be late for their first game. Not all circumstances will warrant leniency for being late. Boys/Girls will use a size 6 ball in all divisions. MRBA will supply the game balls. SCORING: One (1) for regular baskets inside the arc and Two (2) for shots taken outside the arc. No 3-point baskets. The 3-point line will be referred to as the two-point line or arc. A forfeit will be called if a team does not show up by the 5 minute mark in any game. In the event of a forfeit the score will be marked down as 5-0. If the team turns up after a forfeit has been called by the referee, they can play the remainder of the game but the score will stand as the forfeit score. AUTOMATIC WIN – When a team scores 21 points they are declared the winning team. Once a team has scored 21 points the game is over regardless of how much time there is left on the clock. 3 seconds in the key applies. Shot clock: As there is no shot clocks in place – Referee to warn "stalling" situations. Possession given to defence following a second warning. “Stalling” is deemed to be when players are not engaging the defence in an attempt to score; by deliberately passing the ball continuously to run down the clock or by holding the ball outside the 2-point arc. Teams are still expected to attempt to score every 12 seconds. • Initial possession: Coin flip or rock, paper, scissors. Possession following a successful field goal: Defense possession right underneath the basket. Ball to be dribbled/passed behind the arc. Possession following a dead ball: "Check ball" Exchange behind the arc (at the top). “Check ball” refers to the team who will be on offense being at the top of the two-point arc. They pass the ball to the defensive team, who then pass the ball back to the offensive team to start play. Following a steal, a turnover, a defensive rebound, etc: Ball to be dribbled/passed behind the arc. Following a jumpball situation: Defense possession. Following a shooting foul: One (1) free-throw if foul committed inside the arc & Two (2) freethrows if foul committed behind the arc. Free-throws are to be taken from the main freethrow line. Time outs will not be used. Foul limit per player: Four (4). Foul limit per team: Six (6). • • • • • • • • • • • • Team Foul Penalty situation: One (1) free-throw. Substitutions: In dead ball situations, prior to a checked ball. Referee(s): One (1). Time/Score keeper(s): One (1) per team. The ball is considered as "behind the arc" when the offensive player in possession of the ball has both feet behind the two point arc. Results will be tallied on a result sheet – win = 3 points, loss = 1 points. There are to be no draws in games. If games are a tie at the end of regulation time. Then there will be a period of overtime to determine the winner. OVERTIME - Winner of the game is the first team to score one (1) point. First possession will be determined by a coin toss. Team with the highest total points results in 1st place, next highest results in 2nd place etc. In the event of tied number of points, the highest place getter will be determined on a head-tohead basis with the teams involved. If there is a 3 way tie for teams on the same amount of points and head to head cannot determine the result, then the order of positions will be determined by the win/loss margin amongst the 3 teams involved only. Official FIBA Basketball Rules apply for all game situations not specifically mentioned above.
