Quarterback Challenge
Skill: Metaphors, Similes, and Personification
Materials:
Game board, playing cards, timer (optional), Quarterback Challenge worksheet, pencil
How to Win:
 The player with the highest number of points at the end of the game.
Goal:
 To score the most touchdowns during the game.

How to Play the Game:
 Each player places his or her football on the 50-yard line. Players will determine
their end zones. Footballs will be moved across the field toward the end zone.
 (Optional) Set the timer for the number of minutes in the game. The time can
range from 10-20 minutes.
 The first player will choose a card from the game card pile.
 If the player correctly identifies the figure of speech, he/she moves the
football down the field the number of yards stated on the card.
 If the player incorrectly answers the question, he/she moves the football
back the number of yards stated on the card.
 The player on the right will check the answer sheet for the correct answer.
 After a touchdown is scored, the football marker is returned to the 50-yard line.
 Each player will keep track of their score on the bottom of the response
sheet.
 The next player will continue and take a card from the card pile
Assessment:
 Students will write sentences from the cards under the correct heading on the
worksheet. The players will submit the worksheet to the teacher at the end of
the game. The game will be assessed by checking the answers on the worksheet
for correct capitalization.
 Teacher observation during the game for understanding of concepts.
