JANCIS ROBINSON BIBI GRAETZ Hasn't he been busy on our behalf? The main picture shown above right is a detail from the label of Bibi Graetz's most expensive wine Colore, from his oldest vines. Note the suggested selling price! I obviously have very cheap tastes. I tasted a range of his wines before I knew their prices and actually preferred one of his wines selling at a small fraction of the price of Colore. Below is a picture of Bibi Graetz from his website. Bibi Graetz, Bugia 2015 IGT Toscana 80-year-old Ansonica vines, mainly raised in concrete. Rather sweet and ripe on the nose with some fermentation aromas still in evidence. Broad and racy. very flattering smudgy aromas and then lots to chew on. Herbal blossomy bloomy notes. Then bite. Something close to medicinal plant notes,13% Drink 2016-2018 £48 RRP 16.5 Bibi Graetz, Casamatta 2015 IGT Toscana Light to mid ruby. Very light and racy. Some concrete? Tight and with lots to chew on. Could be served quite cool. So easy to like! 12.5% Drink 2016-2018 £11 RRP 16.5 Bibi Graetz, Testamatta 2013 IGT Toscana 100% Sangiovese from more than 35-year-old vines. Dark crimson. Strong damson notes. Lots of life and raciness with an undertow of chestnuts. Very chewy. Lots of energy. Masses of acidity, and quite a bit of tannins. 12.5% Drink 20172021 £115 RRP 16.5 Bibi Graetz, Colore 2011 IGT Toscana 1/3 Sangiovese, 1/3 Canaiolo, 1/3 Colorino from Bibi Graetz's oldest vineyard, about 60 years old. Very luscious and sweet. Sweeter nose than some of the other Bibi Graetz reds. A bit too tart on the end. Wild! Seems a bit extreme. But then so is the price...14% Drink 2016-2020 £500 (a bottle) RRP 16+ Bibi Graetz, Soffocone di Vincigliata 2014 IGT Toscana Mainly Sangiovese raised in French barriques. Light crimson. Quite sweet and elderberry-like but less fresh than the simpler Casamatta. In fact rather drying of the insides of the cheeks. Very sweet! Maybe one just has to wait a little?12.5% Drink 2017-2021 £30 RRP 16
