Network while you learn
All of our courses were created by supervisors
and leading artists of some of the world’s top
studios. Since the industry is very competitive
and studios don’t tend to hire based on
potential, we work very closely with the industry
to ensure that our students can hit the ground
running on their first day of work. Studying at
CG Spectrum will allow you to network with
local and international industry contacts whilst
you study and create a reel that studios would
be excited to view.
By connecting you to the best talent from
around the world, you’ll follow in the footsteps
of legends and begin expanding your
professional network while you learn.
As a diploma student at CG Spectrum you will
gain access to exclusive master classes from
film and game supervisors.

up working when you graduate. Using our industry
connections we’ve not only identified examples of
some of the new roles that have emerged over the
past 10 years, we’ve also identified some of the key
roles that industry is looking for now.

5
Become a Film or Game Artist
It takes a large team of artists who specialise
in different areas to create films and games
It would be great to be amazing at everything, but that is not very likely for most of us. That is why film and
gmae studios hire people that specialize in a specific area. Since it is our goal to help students succeed in the
entertainment art industry we found out what these main areas are and designed our courses accordingly.
For example here is a basic summary of the way a traditional production art pipeline works for films. It starts with
individuals highly trained in concept design. They are the ones who interpret and draw the initial concepts for a
fillm. Then it moves onto 3D modellers, animators and riggers who create the CG characters and props you see
in the final film. Finally it comes down to lighters, visual FX artists, compositors and matte painters to bring it all

Steve Budd
© Universal Pictures
Instructor of Animation | Head of Online Training
Steve Budd came from a background in traditional art, before a desire to bring more life to his work prompted
him to make the move to study animation and computer graphics as a way of combining both skill sets. His
early animation life began working on various children’s televisions shows, and in advertising for a range of post
production studios around Melbourne. Some recent work has been animating on such feature films as TED and
Ghost Rider 2 and through his own design studio, on various game, advertising and film projects. Throughout his
career he has taught at various animation and gaming schools, and found that nothing is more inspiring or keeps
his skills stronger than teaching an art form that he loves.
Simon Warwick
© Warner Bros.
Instructor of Animation
Simon Warwick is trained and practiced in animation but is always exploring technology, trying to learn how to
create the next best thing. He’s spent the past 7 years working at established video games studios, and was
recently credited as the only technical cinematic animator for Batman: Arkham City at Rocksteady Studios. Simon
hopes to pass along skills learned in the games industry to help students deal with problems with no correct
answers. Having an open mind and staying just outside your comfort zone can keep you ahead of the competition
and make you a valuable employee. With time, the mysterious world of game development will be something that
you too can explore and create in!

Many other visual FX and animation schools in Australia are
earning bad reputations for just pumping out grads with mediocre
work. They are not focusing on what skillsets are actually needed
for artists to succeed in this competitive industry. Teachers at
these schools do not need to be working professionals like in
CG Spectrum’s model.

allow future grads to produce high caliber show reels.
