Job Description
The role of the Student Ambassador at Oxford Brookes University is to support the work of the UK
Recruitment and Partnerships team. We work together to inform and attract prospective students
and their parents, as well as raising the aspirations of school students of all ages, encouraging them
to stay on in school and potentially work towards a place at university. Ambassadors are expected
to liaise with a range of external customers and provide clear and honest advice and information to
help them with making decisions about higher education. Ambassadors can be one of the first
contacts prospective students have with Oxford Brookes University, and hence serve as a front line
force in representing the university.
Program Schedule and Responsibilities
The Ambassador program runs the entire academic year from Freshers week in September to the
end of the academic year. Following application, you may be shortlisted for interview stage. If you
are a finalist in the selection process, you will be notified by email. If successful at interview, the job
will start at the beginning of the new academic year in September. Responsibilities will include:









Meeting prospective students and giving campus tours to students and their families, these
tours run at 10.30am and 2.30pm every week day throughout the year.
Assisting with Open/ Applicant Days throughout the year.
Helping with the pack and dispatch of University literature to prospective students
Attending Higher Education fairs with University staff and with other Ambassadors
Giving ‘Student Life’ presentations to groups of prospective students and their parents
Facilitating groups of students to ‘Passport to University’ workshop days for school students
aged 14-16, encouraging them to stay on in school
Working with primary school age children at our ‘Time Capsule’ activity days
Supporting our residential summer schools for local children
Occasionally supporting other departments of the University in their work
Training
There is a compulsory 2 day training programme for all new Ambassadors which takes place during
Freshers week in September. Failure to attend the training will result in us not being able to offer
you the position. Attendance for the training sessions and the first project is mandatory. You will
receive emails over the summer which outlines training location and other program details.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
To be selected as a Student Ambassador at Oxford Brookes University is an honour and an excellent
opportunity for personal and professional growth. Students who are selected as Ambassadors
possess strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, a genuine interest in meeting new people,
and wish to represent the University.
Ambassadors will need the ability to ask and answer questions clearly and to make prospective
students feel comfortable. A Student Ambassador should also be able to problem solve, be
motivated, a team player, adaptable, confident, respectful, enthusiastic, responsible, dependable,
punctual, outgoing, friendly and eager to meet new people, and help others.
Ambassadors will have flexible work hours and will be paid at the following rates:
Office work/ mail shots/ prospectus packing etc - £8.47ph
Events/ workshops/ campus tours etc
Presentations
£9.58ph
£10.71ph
Applicants for the Student Ambassador position MUST be able to attend the 2 day training which
typically takes place in Freshers week in September. Attendance is a mandatory part of the job offer.
