CAMPS Small Grant Scheme (2016–30 Sep 2017)

CAMPS SMALL GRANT SCHEME (2016 – 30 Sept. 2017):
RESEARCH & CONFERENCE SUPPORT
Several small charitable foundations in the USA have made modest grants to the Galway
Foundations Office to support the activities of CAMPS, including funds to support research
projects or to assist in the hosting of academic conferences by members of the CAMPS
community.
Possible purposes for a grant would include, for example, to help defray the cost of:
 travel & expenses for a conference at which one is presenting a paper;
 travel & expenses to consult materials in archives or research libraries;
 the purchase of research materials such as specialised software packages, the colour
printing of digitised manuscripts, etc.;
 travel & expenses of a leading scholar to lead a workshop directly linked to one’s
current research project or to promote joint/team research projects;
 a plenary speaker for a research symposium or conference;
 running expenses (such as printing, marketing, catering) for a research symposium or
conference.
Other, related, purposes will be considered.
Applicants may apply for €100–€750 and might receive less than the full amount requested.
Applications may be made by individuals or by pairs/small groups.
Applications for funds to be spent by 30 September 2016 are due by Wed. 1 June 2016.
Applications for funds to be spent 1 October 2016 – 31 September 2017 are due by 1 Sept. 2016.
Only current students, researchers and academic staff of NUI Galway active in CAMPS are
eligible to apply for the current round(s): funds to be spent spring 2016 – 30 September
2017.
Preference normally will be accorded to applicants without access to internal NUIG
travel and research schemes (e.g., Triennial or Millennium Fund; School- or Disciplinebased research awards). Students are encouraged to apply.
Applications are assessed and awards determined by the current CAMPS committee.
Because of the charitable status of the donors, the grants are retrospective and all funds
claimed must be vouched for according to NUIG’s accounting rules; i.e., the amount of the
award will be reimbursed to the recipient upon the submission of receipts, paid invoices or
mileage & subsistence claim forms, as appropriate. Flights might have to be booked through
Club Travel in some circumstances.
Recipients should make one claim after all expenses have been incurred (details to be
determined after award of grant in consultation with CAMPS treasurer).
The support of a CAMPS Small Grant should be acknowledged in all publications,
conference or related materials that derive from work supported by the award.
Should further donations be received in January 2017, a further call will follow, including for
funds to be spent in 2017.
