Wicklea Academy Newsletter No.17

Tuesday 5th May 2015
Dear Mothers, Fathers and Carers
Formal Opening
Wicklea Academy
On Monday April 27th we
welcomed Michael Eavis CBE and
his wife Liz to Wicklea Academy.
Together with Governors and
invited guests Michael Eavis
formally opened the school,
cutting a celebratory cake and
unveiling a plaque in the school.
All Wicklea children were
given a Wicklea cup cake
and a T shirt to recognise a
very special day.
Michael is Waycroft Multi
Academy Trust Patron of
the Arts.
After visiting Wicklea and watching the children
sing and dance Michael went to Waycroft
Academy to formally open Waycroft’s new multipurpose hall and kitchen facicility. Photographs of
the day are available on the new websites
www.wickleaacademy.com and
www.waycroftacademy.com.
New Wicklea Academy Library and Author Visit
Wicklea Friends have kindly agreed to pay the author Elen
Caldecott to visit the school on May 8th. From 1pm Elen will
be running a Writers Workshop for 30, selected Wicklea
children from across the 4 age groups. Elen will then address
the whole school, open the Library and, from 3pm onwards,
be signing copies of her books in the school hall. Copies of
Elen’s books will be available for sale in the hall and parents
are welcome from 3pm onwards.
To enable all Wicklea children to use our new library facility we will need a signed permission slip
returned from every parent/carer. See attached letter and return slip.
Quiz Night
Please remember to sign up for the Friends Quiz night on Friday 15th May. It’s £2.50 per person
maximum 4 per team. If you would like to partake but don’t have a team to join, please let the
school office know and we will be able to place you in a team.
Head lice
Please check your child(rens) hair regularly and treat as necessary for head lice.
Farewell
At the end of term 5 Two members of staff are leaving and we would like to thank them for their
hard work and dedication. We wish Miss Lunn all the best with her soon to be new addition to her
family, and Miss Benoit with her new chosen career.
Singing Club
Although Miss Benoit is leaving, Miss Allen has kindly agreed to run Singing Club for the remainder of
the school year.
Lifecycle
Some of our Year 6 students will get the opportunity to take a Bikability course run by Lifecycle after
their SAT papers. They will need to have a roadworthy bike, a helmet and a signed permission slip
before going onto the road in groups. They will need to bring their bikes to school on Friday 15th May
for an assessment of ability and a bike check. They will be given the permission forms on the 15th if
they have been selected to take the course on the road. Lifecycle sessions run during the school
holidays at various locations throughout Bristol for anyone who is unable to participate this time.
