Siemens Management Consulting was established in April
1996 as the strategy consulting unit of Siemens. This move
­represented uncharted territory for Siemens, as the con­
cept of “internal consulting” had never been explored
before, neither within Siemens nor at other corporations.
SMC pursued a two-fold mission from the outset. The
first was to provide the best possible support to Siemens
through first-class strategy consulting services. The ­second
was to train top talent for the multifaceted demands of
line ­management work at Siemens.
