Day 1:
Waterberg Resort, Waterberg Plateau National Park
(Mon, 13 February)
Waterberg Plateau National Park
Named for the springs that emanate from its foothills, the Waterberg Plateau National Park is a fascinating
geological site of compressed sandstone crags, 200-year-old dinosaur footprints, and petrified sand dunes. The
area’s natural water sources make it far more fertile than its environs and the park is blessed with a plethora of plant
and animal species, including leopards, rhinoceros, vultures, cheetahs, bush babies, ferns and fig trees.
Overnight: Waterberg Resort
Waterberg Resort is the gateway to the Waterberg Plateau Park, one of the most spectacular features of the
northern region, towering some 200 meters above the surrounding landscape, with sheer cliffs and fascinating rock
formations. The Waterberg Resort has recently been re-developed. Accommodation is provided in comfortable
premier bush chalets, two and four bed bush chalets and double rooms, all nestled along the base of the Waterberg
Plateau cliffs, among towering trees.
The restaurant, bar and kiosk are housed in the historic Rasthaus, originally built in 1908 and used as a police post
for several years. The open air swimming pool with a view of the Plateau above is the perfect remedy for the weary
guest. The Camp also has a shop and a camping site available.

Day 2:
Taleni Etosha Village, Etosha National Park (Tue, 14 February)
Etosha National Park
The Etosha National Park is Namibia's premiere game viewing experience, situated in the northwest of Namibia and
is an area well known for its wildlife. Vegetation ranges from dense bush to open plains attracting a diversity of
wildlife. In the heart of the Park is The Etosha Pan - a shallow depression that covers an area of 5000sq kilometres.
Dry and shimmering for most of the year, the pans fill up with water after good rains to a depth which is seldom
deeper than 1m. In the dry season wildlife is attracted to perennial springs and waterholes that makes for excellent
game viewing.
Within the park are three large public rest camps catering for the more budget orientated traveller. There are
several smaller establishments on the outskirts of the park on private land offering a more intimate and
comprehensive experience. All of these establishments offer excellent value for money.

Etosha Pan
Etosha Pan
Aeons ago, Etosha Pan was the bed of a vast lake; today what remains is a glittering, silvery-green salt pan that
stretches across roughly 5000 square kilometres. Etosha is protected by the Etosha Pan National Park surrounded by
savannah plains and woodlands supporting large herds of elephants. When dry, the pan sustains little life except for
the algae that gives it its distinctive colour, and migratory birds that use it as a pit stop, but with heavy rain it
becomes a shallow lake where flamingos breed, pelicans wade and feed, and a variety of mammal species come to
quench their thirst, including leopards, lions, white rhinos, hunting dogs and antelopes.

Day 4:
Madisa Camp, Damaraland (Thu, 16 February)
Damaraland
Huge, untamed and ruggedly beautiful Damaraland is an exceptionally scenic landscape of open plains and
spectacular rock formations. The major attractions are Spitzkoppe, the Brandberg, Twyfelfontein, Vingerklip and the
Petrified Forest.
Overnight: Madisa Camp
Madisa Camp is situated on the D2612 road to Twyfelfontein, a very popular route. The camp is hidden between
amazing rock formations which are scattered with Bushman Paintings and has privy to an ancient Desert Elephant
route that often gets visited by these beautiful giants.
Each spacious campsite has an exquisite view of the Gauntegab River bed and rock formations. The campsites have
individual ablution facilities situated on stilts hidden in the tree tops. The braai facilities also double up as a heater
(donkey system) for hot running water at each open air shower. The camp sites are shaded by large Mopane trees
and have a low rock wall around each site.
The swimming pool and bar area are very welcoming after a long day and give you a chance to rejuvenate and enjoy
your surroundings. It’s also nice to meet fellow travelers and share tails around a communal camp fire at night while
the sky puts on a breath taking show of stars.

Day 5:
Haus Rosemund Self Catering, Swakopmund (Fri, 17 February)
Swakopmund
Founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa, Swakopmund is often described as being more
German than Germany. Now a seaside resort, Swakopmund is the capital of the Skeleton Coast tourism area and has
plenty to keep visitors happy. The quirky mix of German and Namibian influences, colonial-era buildings and the cool
sea breeze make it very popular.

Namib Naukluft Park, Weltevrede Guest Farm is the home of abundant wildlife and gateway to the famed Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei - The Vlei
This is the vlei itself where, for now, the waters of the Tsauchab River disappear into the red sands of the Namib.
Dead Vlei
This ancient clay pan was once an oasis, studded with acacias and fed by a river that suddenly changed course,
leaving the earth to dry up along with the trees it previously supported. So dry were the climatic conditions that the
trees never decomposed – instead they were entirely leached of moisture so that today, 900 years later, they remain
as desiccated, blackened sentinels dotting the pan’s cracked surface. Surrounded by the red-pink dunes of the
Namibia Desert, they create a surreal spectacle that is a photographer's dream.
Sesriem Canyon
Sesriem Canyon, a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best
explored on foot. Stony walls rise up sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards
dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths
of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of canyon.

(Mon, 20 February)

recently game ranching.
