Self-Advocacy Learning Centre Daily Goals 75% 25% STUDENT ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY The Learning Centre is a learning community, and students who are welcomed into this community have both the privilege and responsibility of membership. In the Learning Centre, the students' responsibility and active participation in their own school and learning experience is highly promoted and supported by teaching staff. Students entering the Learning Centre will have demonstrated and communicated a genuine desire to address the learning challenges they are experiencing. The Learning Centre serves as a calm, quiet and productive space where students are motivated to learn in a supportive environment. Students recognize it is their responsibility to place themselves in an environment where good management and a productive work ethic is the norm. **All students should be familiar with their roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Student Handbook: http://cochrane.rockyview.ab.ca/students-1/student-handbook ALTERNATIVE TO ZERO POLICY If a student is absent when as assignment is given, he/she is accountable for completion of the work at a time to be arranged with the teacher. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what assignments were missed. If a student is late more that twice he/she will be required to make up the time missed. If a student is frequently late, that student will be referred to administration for further action. A student’s attendance is central to success in the Learning Centre. ELECTRONIC USE POLICY The LC values a productive working environment for all students. Electronic devices are ONLY permitted for educational purposes. If these devices become a distraction to the student or others, they will no longer be permitted for use in the Learning Centre.
