CARPENTER CUP BEGINS
The 2015 Carpenter Cup Classic kicked off on Monday morning at Ashburn Field in FDR Park in Philadelphia.
Several area athletes were selected to compete in the games — Wall seniors Dan Wondrack and Ryan Orender, as well as
Manasquan sophomore Tommy Sheehan. The team was selected by the Shore Conference coaches.
Wondrack, a catcher, was part of the Jersey Shore team that won the Carpenter Cup last season.
The Jersey Shore team had the first two days of the classic off, before starting with a game against Burlington County
yesterday. The game was held too late to be covered in this edition of The Coast Star.
With a win, Jersey Shore will play the winner of Lehigh Valley and Tri-Cape tomorrow at Ashburn Field.
The semifinals take place on Monday while the final is set to be played on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Citizens Bank Park, home
of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Jersey Shore team will look to capture a second consecutive title, something that hasn’t been done since the Olympic
Colonial team won back-to-back championships in 1991 and 1992.
The Carpenter Cup is an annual tournament, started in 1986 and held in Philadelphia at FDR Park and Citizens Bank Park.
The tournament features all-star teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware that compete in a 16-team, singleelimination tournament.
