Welcome to the Swimming Edge High Performance Swim Camp! Thank you for participating in our High Performance Swim Camp. We are looking forward to another fun-filled and exciting summer! The camp is sponsored by Finis and World Swimming Prospects with all participants receiving some special discounts following the camp. Swimming Edge provides world-class, high-level technique instruction that augments the club swimmers training program to advance their performance and potential. Our programs have been endorsed by some of the greatest minds in competitive swimming. We are very proud of our experienced and enthusiastic staff, which consists of National Team coaches, university student athletes, National Team swimmers and graduates. Our program provides an incredible opportunity to accelerate the learning of world class swimming skills, while also providing an exciting and enjoyable week of activities building friendships. This Parents’ Guide contains important information that you need regarding required equipment, daily schedules, busing procedures, extended care service and many other items. Please call Eric at 647 385 8344 or send a note with your child prior to the day of absence. For your child’s safety, we will be calling home for any unannounced late or absent campers. Lunch Program Nutritious and delicious, delivered to your camper each day! Lunch is included in the High Performance Residential and Day Camp. Clothing at Camp In order to ensure a safe camp experience, please ensure the following when considering attire for camp: T-Shirt & Shorts: The camp t-shirt must be worn as part of the daily uniform. Check your camp checklist for details.. Comfortable running shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, or “heelies”) Lost & Found: Label it! Going to camp, school, or even just out the door - add children to the mix and things seem to go missing quickly. Health & Safety at Camp Medical Information Changes: Please keep us up-to-date! Please login to your online account to make any postregistration changes. If you make changes in the week prior to camp, please contact us at 647 385 8344 to notify us. Medications: Please send your camper with any required medications, to be stored with the campers belongings, or the camp staff, and make sure you have outlined use with the camp coordinator. First Aid @ Camp: In the event of an emergency, the Emergency Contact Person identified on your registration forms will be notified. Extreme Heat Alerts: At times during the summer, Environment Canada will release an extreme heat advisory. This advisory happens whenever the humidity reaches a level where extreme activity is considered unsafe. During these times, all camps will begin running their extreme heat plans featuring: Extra water breaks Minimal direct sun exposure Reduced activities during the mid-afternoon Please note that our camp is designed to run some activities outdoors. Modified programming will take place. Full camp refunds will not be provided because of extreme heat. Zero Tolerance for abusive behaviour directed at campers or staff. This includes physically and verbally abusive behaviour. Parents will be contacted and participants may be expelled from the camp at the parents’ expense. Refunds will not be provided. This policy will be strictly enforced. Parents Handbook – Performance Swim Camp, Summer 2016 Nut-Free Camp & Lunches Many campers have fatal allergies to nuts. Do not send any nut-based products to camp! This includes all nut-based products including: peanut butter, chocolate bars, squares, cookies and other items including nuts. We appreciate your attention to items being placed in your child’s lunch. Camp Locations The Recreation, Athletics and Wellness Center is located in building 1825. A beautiful university campus with ample space for outdoor activities. Camp Bus The Swim Camp Home Base is the University of Toronto Mississauga pool. Residential Campers will be bussed from our host hotel, the Holiday Inn Toronto/Mississauga located at 2125 N Sheridan Way, Mississauga On to and from the pool and to other activities. Parents Handbook – Performance Swim Camp, Summer 2016 Getting to Camp Camp Staff will greet all day campers in the lobby of the recreation and athletics facility. Walking, Biking Home If your child is planning on walking or riding their bike home (or to another location on campus), for safety reasons we request that you indicate such during registration. Drop Off/Pick Up Drop off is right in front of the doors of the athletics center. If you wish to park and come in with your camper pleae enter the parking lot directly opposite to the entrance and you will have to pay for parking. The same applies to pick up, it can be a congested area so please park in the parking lot if you are going to come in. Daily Equipment Checklist Bathing Suit and Towel: Campers are in the water twice daily – please plan accordingly when packing suits and towels. Two pairs of goggles Swim Cap Shorts (suitable for dryland training) T-Shirt (other than camp shirt) Sneakers Water bottle (don’t forget to put your name on it) Lock for the change room lockers Deck/shower shoes Lunch (day campers only) High Performance: Residential Equipment Checklist Pajamas Enough clothing for the entire week (there will be no opportunity to do laundry) toiletries Book, cards, or other quiet activities for time in the hotel Medication if needed. Please do not bring video game systems, jewelry, personal music players or anything else of value. There is no safe place to store these items. All campers are provided a copy of their video. The morning workouts will focus on developing skills of one stroke each day. The afternoon workout will center around maintaining technical reliability under higher velocity swimming.
