AS FORMER NBA STARS COMPETE IN THE
INAUGURAL CHAMPIONS BASKETBALL GAME
Competitive Game Tips Off at Chaifetz Arena on Thursday, March 10, 2016 to
Benefit the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund at The V Foundation
and St. Louis Area Charities
ST. LOUIS -- November 17, 2015 -- St. Louis NBA fans, your wait is over! Champions Basketball
League is bringing players straight out of the NBA to showcase their skills during a fast-paced,
competitive basketball game at Chaifetz Arena on Thursday, March 10. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
This competitive men’s charity basketball game features professional and All-Star athletes on the court
and Hall of Famers on the bench as coaches and game ambassadors. Built for fan fun, the event proceeds
will benefit the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund at The V Foundation and St. Louis area
charities.
Champions League players “got game.” The event features dozens of recent NBA stars including
Larry Hughes and Corey Maggette being led from the bench by Theophalus Ratliff and other All Stars
and players to be announced. Additional NBA royalty will serve as Game Day Ambassadors to meet and
greet fans.
While the players, competition level, half-time show and venue are all pro, the fan experience will be upclose and personal with opportunities for player meet-and-greets, ball kids, fan “tunnels” for player

entrances, and recognition of area collegiate and youth basketball teams and coaches.

A youth basketball clinic conducted by Champions League players will be held on Saturday, January 30,

ABOUT THE STUART SCOTT MEMORIAL CANCER RESEARCH FUND
The V Foundation launched the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund in honor of the legendary
ESPN broadcaster Stuart Scott. The Fund continues his fight against cancer and assists some of the most
vulnerable and disproportionately impacted communities battling this horrible disease.

ABOUT LARRY HUGHES
A St. Louis fan favorite, Hughes attended Saint Louis University where he was named “Freshman
of the Year” in 1998. Larry was the eighth pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, selected by the
Philadelphia 76ers. He is known for being a versatile and athletic guard with strong defensive
abilities, and was selected to the 2004-2005 NBA All-Defensive 1st Team as a member of the
Wizards. On May 2, 2006, Hughes was recipient of the inaugural Austin Carr Good Guy Award,
designed to recognize the Cavaliers player who is cooperative and understanding of the media, the
community and the public. Larry, a CBC High School in St Louis alumni, resides in the Gateway
City.
ABOUT THEOPHALUS RATLIFF
Theo Ratliff played at the University of Wyoming where he accumulated 425 blocked shots during
his career as a Cowboy, a record that stands today. He was the 19th pick in the 1995 NBA Draft,
selected by the Detroit Pistons. Ratliff was a 2001 All Star, was twice named to the All-Defensive
Second Team and a three-time NBA blocks leader. From Demopolis, Alabama, Theo stands 6 feet,
10 inches tall. As an aggressive center, he holds the NBA’s 13th spot for most blocks per game.

ABOUT COREY MAGGETTE
A 1999 First-Round Draft Pick from Duke, Corey played 14 seasons in the NBA including eight
seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. He was the Clippers’ career leader in free throws made
(3,122) and attempted (3,791). Off the court, Maggette established the “Corey Cares Foundation”
to serve, mentor and inspire the less fortunate in the community. He is current a basketball analyst
with Fox Sports.
