MECHANICAL SERVICE AND GRINDING
Roll manufacturing
Rolls are manufactured according to the
Customer's drawing or specifically designed in
relation to the working conditions prevailing at
the Customer's . Thanks to our Finite Elements
programme RIF Technical Department is in a
position to calculate the mechanical stresses
based on simulation of the operating conditions,
and eventually optimize the roll design in order
to reduce the roll weight and increase the
operating speed. We are also able to provide a
study of the deflection curves for crown
calculation ,the design of the internal cooling
system and the calculation and design of the optimum drilling patterns for the suction rolls aimed at
noise reduction at the same time not affecting mechanical resistance.
Mechanical service
RIF is proactive in providing refurbishing solutions of
the Customer's cylinders; the mechanical service is
the core of RIF's business beside being auxiliary to all
other departments and business lines.

Machining and gun/drilling of bronze and stainless
steel suction shells.

Precision grinding
Rif is an expert at roll grinding being established in 1966
primarily as a grinding workshop. In this deprtament we
work all face materials and all crown types to the highest
level of accuracy.

Galvanic chrome platings
RIF SpA has adopted a special rotational plating
technology which offers the following advantages if
compared with the conventional method:
Excellent uniformity of the chromium layer thickness
and of the physical properties of the plating.
Reduction of gas inclusions : more compact coating
and increased resistance to corrosion.

The most important applications of chrome platings in the paper industry are

Thermal spraying of rolls
The most advanced spraying technologies
are adopted and the first-rate materials
both in terms of quality and technology are
sprayed onto the rolls. The combination of
RIF's knowledge and resources in the field
of thermal coating with its long term
experience in roll refurbishing make this
sector one of the most interesting and
promising.
Highly wear resistant Tungsten carbide coatings for supercalender rolls and soft calenders.
Anti-slipping coatings with a high content of tungsten carbide or molybdenium for Rewinder
backing rolls and Winding drums (at RIF's or at Customer's site).
High-energy ceramic coating of guiding rolls.
Dirt repelling coatings for guiding positions : ceramic + teflon or tungsten ?arbide + teflon.
Thermal spraying of Yankee and MG cylinders (only at Customer's site) realization full face
or on the edges only.
SERVICE ON SITE
The Service on-site Team of RIF is well known in the
marketplace for the extreme accuracy of service and the
attention given to the optimization of maintenance time
so to reduce machine downtime as much as possible.
Hot grinding or grinding at room temperature of Yankee or MG cylinders crowned or cylindrical profile.
Cold grinding or polishing or can dryers.
Metal coatings of Yankee and MG cylinders with our VARIHARD series coatings.
Metal coatings of Rewinder Backing rolls or Winder Drums with our REELMET series coatings.
In addition our Team is in a position to offer tailor made solutions to meet particular needs of our
customers or services related to troubleshooting / diagnostics for example:
Metal spraying of worn edges.
Turning of bearing seats of dryers and yankee cylinders.

RUBBER COVERINGS
Our range of rubber coverings enable to cover most of the positions installed in a paper machine , from
guiding rolls to more demanding applications like press rolls in the wet-end, rolls in the coating and size
press units and the pressure rolls working against theYankee cylinder in tissue production.
The integration with the other activities offered by RIF completes our capabilities in this business sector.
The rubber covering service is provided by RIF ROLLCOVER SRL, a joint venture company between
RIF SPAand VOITHPAPER.

FIBROUS REFILLINGS
In spite of the increasing use of composite covers in
supercalendering , the traditional paper refillings still
show exclusive features which make them the best
choice for several paper grades.
We can supply refillings with special fibrous materials
( i.e. with a variable content of cotton , wool or linen ) of
supercalender bowls or embossing rolls.
Upon demand we can also manufacture the new metal
shafts for the calender bowls availing of good quality
steel adequately treated and machined.
