The Narrabri Polocrosse Club are very concerned about the growing trend of disrespectful play and
flouting of the rules that we are seeing each and every weekend.
We are not blaming any particular club/person but the rules of the game are not been adhered to and
enforced and this is happening more frequently.
Our major concerns are - allocation of umpires to games. Ensuring that all umpires are sufficiently qualified to be doing the
games assigned to. That the zone and state umpire review all draws.
(We have since reviewed our own draw and found some minor issues which the club will make every
effort to avoid in the 2016 carnival)
- Possibility of having 2 umpires on all games including juniors and sub juniors. As this is where the
young players are learning the rules.
- Maybe following Qld Polocrosse that if assigned an umpire job and fail to do so suspended for a
carnival or two. This is happening too often where assigned umpires send out lesser experienced
players to do their umpires job. The host club would have most likely assigned the original umpire to
that game for a particular reason.
- Send off rule needs to be enforced with players showing excessive aggression before an accident
occurs. Sometimes a cool off period is best for all involved.
- Ensuring all draw result sheets are completed in their entirety. If there was an incident, hit in which
produced blood ect all needs to be documented. Umpires to ensure it is fully completed and returned
to host club. It is the umpire’s responsibility to ensure all details are completed as they are the last
person to sign.
- The current NSWPA minimum guidelines for first aid we do not feel is sufficient enough based on the
current way the game is played, this needs to be upgraded.
- There needs to be harsher penalties on repeat offenders. Sitting out a carnival doesn't seem to
change the player’s way of playing the game. If the entire club was to be held accountable for a repeat
offender this would deter dangerous play.
