Episcopal Diocese of Texas Congregational Coaches The Canon for Congregational Vitality, Mary MacGregor, Newcomer Ministry Project Coordinator, Mary Parmer and the Missioner for Christian Formation, Jamie Martin Currie have trained individuals to serve as congregational coaches for churches in the Diocese of Texas. Special attention has been given to recruit persons who have backgrounds in professional excellence, organizational management and design, congregational leadership and passion for serving the greater church. These coaches are assigned to churches requesting assistance with facilitation of meetings that involve internal assessment, core value discernment, mission statement creation, visioning, strategic planning and newcomer ministry work. In addition, they are utilized in congregations that are about to enter a search process for a new rector to do what the diocese defines as “pre-search work”. A number of them are capable of handling vestry retreats and other specific work. The Diocese also provides formation ministry assessments for congregations looking to re-energize or take their formation ministry to another level. These assessments last three days and include a full year of coaching. A fee structure has been determined by the diocese based on the size of the congregation and the nature of the work. Please see fee schedule on the following page. Currently the Diocese of Texas has a number of trained coaches, many with particular expertise. If your church would like to have outside help with excellent facilitation and meeting design, please contact Mary MacGregor at 713-520-6444 or [email protected]. She will discuss the nature of your congregation’s need and work with you to arrange for an appropriately matched coach. The following is a fee schedule used by the Congregational Coaches who have been trained in the Diocese of Texas. The persons utilizing this schedule have other full time jobs or have agreed to do this work for these fees. There are occasions when coaches have their fees split between the diocese and the church, depending on the particular situation. Also there are occasions when a team does work and splits the fee. All travel expenses are reimbursed by either the diocese or church, depending on pre-arrangements. Any fees split by the diocese and the congregation must first seek approval through the Canon for Congregational Vitality. This fee structure does not apply to professional consultants who contract independently with congregations.
