Internal & External Data Activity
Directions: You are the Assistant Media Relations Director for the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. This Saturday, your school will host Duke University Blue Devils for a game at 6:30pm on ESPN.
Your job is to prepare the pre-game notes on each team. These notes are given to the coaches, local
newspapers, TV (ESPN), radio and are made available on the athletic website. Using the websites below
for each school, collect internal data (from UNC) and external data (from Duke) relevant to this
weekend’s game and prepare the game notes. Your game notes should be at least 2 full pages. Feel
free to use a template in Publisher to create a more attractive format. It is preferred that you complete
this on paper, using a computer or another electronic device. You can complete this on paper, Word, or
Google Docs.

You should include the following information for both teams:






Current Record (wins/losses)
Key players (include stats from the last game)
Injured players
History between schools (how many wins/losses for each school over the years they have
played each other)
List each player and the coaching staff from UNC and Duke
Head Coaches (overall record, past coaching experience, past playing experience, etc)
After you have written your game notes, identify the internal data you collected (from UNC) and the
external data you collected (from Duke.) You can either make a list of it or highlight it within your
game notes.
