PLAYER COURT POSITIONS

PLAYER COURT POSITIONS We always talk of players on court being in certain numbered positions. Below are the positions we talk about in the 1 through to 5 positions. Understand your Position on the court and learn the other positions that you or your teammates play: (1) Point Guard: it is their responsibility to get the ball down the court into offense. This doesn’t always mean dribbling it yourself. Passing can be more effective. Once it gets into our Half Court the Point Guard then slows the game down and sets up an offensive play. They work closely with the coach in this regard. They should not be Offensive rebounders; they have to make sure they are stopping the fast break of the opposition. (2) Shooting Guard: He is always there to help get the ball down the court and as such must be an excellent dribbler. In Offense often plays are run to get them open for an outside shot. they are required to have a great technique for shooting (3) Swing man: they are the team’s all-‐rounder, they must be able to do everything. They are required to pass the ball in on violations for end all or sidelines as well as assist with making sure the ball gets to the offensive safely. They must be able to shoot from outside, drive at the basket and also be able to work inside near the basket. (4) Power forward: This is our strong man. They are a scorer who can dominate within the key in Offence. They are rebounders in all situations , at both ends of the floor. They try to get down the floor as soon as possible and let the guards get the ball down there. (5) Centre: Generally the tallest in the team. They are pivotal to the teams defence. They have to be ready to help out on split line and always be able to intimidate all the opposition if they try to score. They are scorer in offence and work very closely with the 4 man in relation to posting up in Offence and who is in the key. Every time our team put up a shot they are crashing the boards trying to get every rebound. The (4) and (5) have to be in EVERY rebounding contest at both ends of the floor either Offence or defence EVERY TIME.
