Membership Rules
NICS Hockey Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well being of all its
members. Respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of everybody is paramount
and the club believes that members, coaches, officials and parents are aware of this.
Therefore members are encouraged to express concerns that they may have about any
aspect of the club.
All junior members must abide by the following rules:

Members must be kept safe from harm while they are at, or representing the club, as
far as possible. Members must look out for themselves and the welfare of others
No member of the club must ask anyone to kept secrets of any kind










Members must under no circumstances consume alcohol, smoke or take drugs of any
kind whilst on the club premises and must not participate in any club activity while
under such influence
Members must treat Sports Leaders with respect, (including administrators, coaches,
umpires, managers, children’s officers, club officials, etc.)
Members must be punctual for all training and matches and must tell someone if they
are leaving a venue or competition
Members must abide by the rules set down by team managers when travelling to
away events or otherwise representing the club
Member must behave in a manner that avoids bringing Hockey in any way into
disrepute
Members are responsible for their own equipment and valuables. They will also take
care of their own, others and the club's property
No jewellery or unsuitable clothing or footwear to be worn
Members must agree to abide by the club’s fair play policy and act in accordance with
it at all times
Members should try to pay fees on time
Members should talk to the Children’s Officer within the club if they have any
problems
Fair Play Policy
Players within the club:
 Agree to play for enjoyment and to improve their skills and performance.
 Players will try to understand the rules of the club and the game and stick to them at
all times.
 Players must accept the decisions of coaches and officials without exception.
 Players must exercise self control with their tempers at all times. They must not use
violence or physical contact that is not allowed within the rules.
 Players must display good sportsmanship both on and off the pitch. They will show
respect and good manners to both team mates and opponents.
 The players’ main aim will be to have fun and improve their skills leading to raising
their self esteem.
 Players will act towards others with good manners in the way in which they would like
to be treated. They will not bully or take advantage of another player.
 Players must not discriminate against other players on the basis of gender, disability,
social class, religion
 Players will co-operate with all coaches, umpires, team mates and opponents.

Parental Consent
Code of Contact
NICS Hockey Club believes that parents play an important and influential role in their child's
sporting development. With this in mind, the club would like to ask all parents to influence
their child's participation in hockey within the junior club. In particular the club would like all
parents to:













respect the rules and procedures set down in Hockey
respect their child’s teammates and leaders as well as players, parents and coaches
from opposing teams
encourage their child to treat other participants, coaches, children’s officers, officials,
selectors and managers with respect
encourage the child's participation in a positive manner, give encouragement and
applaud only positive accomplishments whether from their child, his/her teammates,
their opponents or the officials
recognise that at all times enjoyment is paramount
emphasise enjoyment and fun and praise and reinforce effort and improvement
encourage fair play
promote effort and teamwork are more important than winning
develop a positive supporting attitude and improve skills by setting realistic goals
respect the officials and their authority during sessions and events within the club and
under the auspices of Ulster Hockey Union.
recognise the value of the coaches who provide these opportunities for young people
never demonstrate threatening or abusive behaviour or use foul language
always ensure the child has the correct equipment and is dressed according to the
weather conditions. Shin guards are essential and we strongly recommend wearing
gum shields
express any concerns about your child to the junior club co-ordinator
Parental Consent
In the event of illness, having parental responsibility, I give permission for medical treatment
to be administered where considered necessary by a nominated first aider, or by suitably
qualified medical practitioners. If I cannot be contacted and my child needs emergency
hospital treatment, I authorise a qualified medical practitioner to provide emergency treatment
or medication.
I confirm that all details are correct and I am able to give parental consent for my child(ren) to
participate in and travel to all activities.
I agree to my child being a member of the NI Civil Service Hockey Club, Junior Section and
participating in the activities involved. I give permission for my child(ren)’s details including
date of birth to being provided to NICSSA by NICSHC in accordance with their responsibilities
as an affiliated club of NICSSA
I give permission for the club coaches and volunteers to teach my child the rules, skills and
etiquette of hockey in line with the Code of Ethics for Hockey for Young People. I
acknowledge that my child must treat those people with respect and obedience. I have read
the Junior Section rules and will do my best to assist if I am needed.
I, as a parent/guardian, agree to abide by the rules and procedures of Hockey and in
particular the Guidelines and Code of Conduct for Parents (as per the IHA Code of Ethics for
Young People – please see our website for a copy of the Code, www.nicshockey.co.uk).
