SHOW CAUSE (Unsatisfactory Progress)

Academic Progress in Semester <<first half/second half>>, <<year>> progress review period,
The University has reviewed your results for <<first half/second half>>, <<year>> progress review period
and found that they are below the minimum required for satisfactory progress in your course as set out in
the Academic Progress Review Policy. A copy of your Student Record Card will be emailed to your
University email account within 3 business days of receiving this notification.
You are required to show cause as to why your enrolment in your course should not be terminated. The
Course Unsatisfactory Progress Committee (CUPC) must now decide whether to
 allow you to stay enrolled in the «PARENT_SPK_FULL_TL» with or without restriction for the next
teaching period; or
 temporarily suspend your enrolment in that course; or
 terminate your enrolment in the course.
You must make a written submission and may be required to attend an interview with the Course
Unsatisfactory Progress Committee (CUPC). At the interview you will discuss your academic performance,
to explain why your enrolment in your course should not be terminated and to help the committee make
an informed decision about your enrolment. If you cannot attend an interview you must still complete the
online written submission.
If you do not fill-out complete an online written submission, and you do not attend a meeting, you will be
considered a non-responder and the Committee will make a decision regarding your progress in your
absence.
How to make an appointment and submit your written submission
1.
Book an appointment by <<academic services to insert details of booking method>> no later than
<<DATE>>. Interviews with the Unsatisfactory Progress Committee will be held from <<INTERVIEW

Complete and submit the online ‘Course Unsatisfactory Progress – Written Submission’ via the
following link: Course Unsatisfactory Progress – Written Submission at least two days prior to your
CUPC date (along with any other relevant documents eg. medical reports, reports from professional
counsellors) Please email [email protected] if you have any difficulties with the
online form.

Report to the <<LOCATION OF INTERVIEWS>> at least five minutes prior to your interview time. You
may bring a support person with you to the interview.

Help with preparing your written submission

Alternatively, you can choose to withdraw from your course before the committee considers your academic
progress. The committee will not consider the progress of students who have withdrawn from their course.
How to withdraw from your course
If you wish to withdraw from your course, an application to withdraw can be made through my.unimelb
before the Course Unsatisfactory Progress Committee (CUPC) considers your academic progress and makes
a decision about your enrolment.
Please be aware that applications for course withdrawal are not automatically and immediately approved.
Please email [email protected] as soon as your application has been submitted. We can
then ensure that it is approved and actioned before your meeting time.
Student visa implications
International students holding a student visa, please note that if the Course Unsatisfactory Progress
Committee (CUPC) terminates your enrolment, you are deemed to have not achieved satisfactory progress.
The University must notify the Australian Government Department of Education and Training and the
Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) that you have breached your visa condition
related to achieving satisfactory course progress. This may have serious implications for your student visa,
including cancellation of your visa.
