2016 Season
•
Tryout dates,
Registration,
Roster postings.
Most content became very dated and
often incorrect
Team/Coach Usage
–
–
Little to none
Coaches/teams have mostly abandon the
MYBA website in favor of other solutions
(e.g. TeamSnap)
Website Stuff
• 2017 – pulling things back together
– Scoreboard Hub – ideally close to real-time
– News, Highlights, Results Hub – we want to begin publishing
successes again
– Instructions forthcoming – need to assign ‘team communicator’
that will tweet scores and send in results/pics from tournaments.
– There will also be opportunities for any parent/spectator to send
in content, less formally
– Feel free to keep your TeamSnap; but some functions will be
available through NGIN (e.g. calendar/schedule, rosters, media
sharing)
• Beyond 2017
– Evaluating alternatives for improved comprehensive options for
Millers teams
Millers Mentors Program
• Purpose/Overview: matching older Millers teams with
young developing teams
– Provides leadership, greater involvement, and opportunity to give
back for older players
– Provides some inspiration to ‘stick with it’ for younger players
• 2017 Team Pairings
*Minis teams to be established in mid/late April
Younger Team
Mentor Team
Mini Team A*
12A – T. Marshall
Mini Team B*

13AAA – J. Skillbeck
10AAA – A. Santiago
14A – S. Laird
Millers Mentors Program
• Each paired older team and younger team hold two (2) joint practices together.
– The older team players are expected to run the 2 practices. Coaches from both
teams help direct the older kids. But, in general, it should be older kids running
things
– Expectation of real practice, but mix in ample fun too
– Try to get the first practice done in the earlier weeks of the season
• Younger team to return the favor by attending one game of their older assigned team
and cheer them on.
– Gives the younger kids an eye into the higher level game.
– Coaches would have to decide how much, if any, 'participation' the younger kids
have at the game (e.g. basic warm-ups together before the game, team pre-game
'Millers on 3' break huddle with the Mini's in the huddle, bat boys, etc...)
• Mentor and Mentee team take a group picture together, and send in to MYBA board
([email protected]).
• The above three items would be the minimum expectations. If the coaches want to go
Additional Info
Playing Time and Positions
NOTE: These are GUIDELINES and not POLICIES. But if a parent complains
the guidelines aren’t being followed, historically MYBA is inclined to side with
the parents
10-12U Guidelines:
• All players should have at least 5 games with 3 innings played in the infield
• All players should have at least 5 games with 2 innings played in the outfield
• Each player should spend at least 20 innings at 2 positions (OF counts as 1 position)
• No player should sit more than 2 innings in a game (assumes 11-12 man roster)*
• All players should have at least 5 games in top half of batting order
• Players interested in pitching with enough control to do so safely should be allowed at least one
opportunity to pitch a complete IP, those too wild should be developed for future use
• Strive to develop at least 2 C and 6 P (>20 IP)
Playing Time and Positions
13U Guidelines
• Each player should spend at least 20 innings at 2 positions (OF counts as 1 position)
• No player should sit more than 3 innings in a game (assumes 11-12 man roster)*
• Players interested in pitching with enough control to do so safely should be allowed at least one
opportunity to pitch a complete IP, those too wild should be developed for future use
• Strive to develop at least 2 C and 6 P (>20 IP)
14U Guidelines
• Situations in which player does not enter game or does not receive at least 1 AB should be kept at
absolute minimum and should be compensated for by playing player entire following game
• Players interested in pitching with enough control to do so safely should be allowed at least one
opportunity to pitch a complete IP, those too wild should be developed for future use

• Track pitch count directly, or indirectly, by assuming 4 pitches
per batter faced
• Consider innings at C to be equivalent of ½ IP
• When your players report arm pain, listen to them and rest
them
• Develop at least 6 pitchers to throw at least 20 IP. “I have no
pitching depth” is NOT an acceptable answer for grinding down
a young arm
Keeping Stats
• Required and essential function of Head Coaching
• Others may keep stats in game, but Head Coach is
responsible for accuracy
• Stats must be submitted in Excel format at year end

These statistical categories are nice to have but not required
These categories are not required and will not be used by MYBA in evaluating players, but if
your stats include these categories you don’t need to remove them before sending
Coach Evaluation and Feedback
Process
• Coach committee will monitor 1 or more pre-season practices for all 1st and
2nd year coaches
– Send your practice schedules to MYBA President
– Committee member may provide feedback or suggested changes
• 1 or 2 in-season surveys distributed to parents
– Unless significant concerns are identified, feedback may not be shared
– In the case of major problems, MYBA President may intervene
• Post-season survey distributed to parents
– Feedback shared in post-season review
• Post-season review interviews – 11-13U: September, 10U: Oct-Jan, 14U:
Optional
• Suggestion: Keep an open door for parents and encourage questions
and concerns, but enforce a 24-hour cooling off period
Recommended Player Commitment
Policy
MYBA recommends the following policy and approach
• Solicit blackout dates for practices as well. If blackout dates are not given,
player is assumed available
• Set practice schedule with as much lead time as possible
• Absences due to illness, injury, school or church activity, or previously
communicated blackout date are excused. All others are unexcused
• After first unexcused absence, 1 unexcused absence = 1 game benched
• Be tough but flexible on punctuality
– Occasional tardiness is OK if parent communicates
– If not communicated or constant, 1 tardy = ½ unexcused absence
Policy Interpretations
• Swearing
– If it would get bleeped off TV, don’t say it in front of players
• Use of alcohol
– Not permitted during games or practices
– Permitted before games or practices, but if you aren’t safe to drive (.08 BA level),
you aren’t safe to coach
