Snipers High School Hockey 2011-2012 The Program Over the last

Snipers High School Hockey 2011-2012
The Program
Over the last several years, the Snipers have been part of the Delaware Scholastic Ice Hockey League (“DSIHL”)
run at area rinks catering to local non pure high school aged players. This league was offered as an alternative to
the Pond’s Delaware Scholastic Hockey Association (“DSHA”) high school league that catered to pure area high
school teams. We are happy to announce that the two leagues are merging together under the leadership of the
DSHA going forward. There will be two divisions of play this coming season in the new expanded DSHA – A
“Varsity A” division for pure school teams and a “Commonwealth” division which will offer area high school kids
who do not have a varsity hockey opportunity at their school to play varsity level ice hockey. During the season,
each division will have cross division games against the other division, with two season ending tournaments to
determine each division’s winner for the season.
As a result, the Snipers will be offering returning players and newly assigned players two options of play – a non
league schedule of games which will allow any player looking for extra ice the ability to play Snipers Hockey on a
pay-as-you-play basis of $25 per game, or $15 per practice. So any high school aged player can sign up for this
program regardless of whether or not you play school hockey or travel hockey elsewhere. We are hoping to
schedule perhaps up to 10 non league games and tournaments depending on interest.
DSHA Puckheads Commonwealth Team
As mentioned, the Snipers are now becoming a part of the DSHA playing in the
Commonwealth Division and will be known as the NCCounty Puckheads. We will need a
different jersey for this league, but we have been approved to only have one color instead of
buying home and away to keep the costs down. The new jersey, with matching socks, will cost
$75 per player. Here is a picture of the jersey >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Puckheads will be playing as many as 18 league games, with home ice at the University
and road ice at the Pond, Harrington, and Ice Works. We will be offering a practice for each
game for the season. The Competition Committee of the DSHA will be approving rosters
loosely based on geography. Middletown, Newark, NightHawks, NCCounty Puckheads, Delco Dragons and Kent
County Havoc will be in the Commonwealth Division this season. Each non pure team will be offering at least 1
practice per league game.
The league team we are fielding will not be pay as you play, but will require a full league participation fee per player
of $850 for the entire season. Further, there will be gate fees for most of our games, which means we will be paying
$4 per person to watch a contest. This is normal high school protocols which we understand adds additional cost to
games for Snipers families. The league is not going to sit on the funds collected, but intends to use the funds for
developing players to help grow the sport.
Rich Purfield will be the head coach of our high school team this season, with Mike Guns and others serving in
support.
Evaluations
Friday, September 16th, 2011 at 6PM in the Gold Arena the Snipers will be holding high school evaluations for
players. If you are a returning player and desire to participate in our non league games, league games, or both,
choose the appropriate box below. If you are a newly assigned player to our team by the Competition Committee of
the DSHA, you can also sign up for regular non league Snipers games if you want extra ice time.
The regular season begins the first weekend of November and runs through February. Most games will be
scheduled Friday through Sunday evenings. Practices will mostly be early Friday evenings this season.
All players must be USA hockey certified and provide their USA Hockey registration form or number to Nancy
Schrier, the Team Manager, before the end of September. A preliminary practice schedule will be up on our website
at evaluations and available as a handout.
